Also just to add to the streamers discussion, some lucky  places will be direct hit of the heavier precpitation. But its worth remembering when they develop, the outer layers of the streamer can be bulky and merge with other showers around it. So it just shows you don't to be directly under the middle of the stream. Countless times in the past I recall streams heading too far North or South of my location and getting the edge of it. You can still get a lot and like I say showers can merge against them, bringing more places in the action. They don't always develop as a straight organised stream. They can be clumps of precipitation on the boundarty layers if that makes any sense.

I believe this happened in 2010, streamers merging into larger bands. With streamers being predicted to reach as far as wales, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to suggest this could happen agian.  With this pattern we also can’t rule out troughs appearing at short notice.

Quite why the Met Office haven't changed the yellow warning to rain I don't know. Just driven from Leeds to Pontefract and back and the conditions were horrendous, especially the motorway.

Just had a call from someone who has a house near the banks of River Aire in Keighley. They've been told to move stuff upstairs due to a good risk of flooding...

Flood warnings all around South Bradford, and in other parts (Pudsey, Halifax, Wakefield). This rain really has come a lot heavier than forecast. The only river gauges in Bradford have all hit their highest ever recorded with the worst affected one looking like has got damaged. Various other spots look to be setting new records as well, going to be a nasty day for some people.

The  gauges in Leeds are also showing very high levels, hopefully people get the warnings.

An I right in thinking that the ppn should start moving SW soon? It's good there's loads of stuff to our North East as that could be snow when it comes over us this evening.

Hoping we can all see a covering tonight as a nice base for the rest of the week!

Hi pal

Notice you have a weather station, I’m new to this but I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while, would you recommend the one you have if so can I ask the name / model please?

Update from Holme Moss after walking the dog! Temperature now down to -0.5C and a good inch of snow. Some of the passing cars without snow tyres or 4WD struggling as they go past. Luckily we have both but time to make an exit. Will be surprised if we are allowed up here tomorrow.

Looking at the chart below T+192 hrs for Sunday the 14th valentines day

We all can make snow angels for our partners.

I think this cold spell will be long lasting maybe up to 19 days at least.

The chart below is 1056mb High. Very impressive and very stubborn to shift .and very rare.

And with the strength of the wind tomorrow and Monday.

Drifting snow even to low levels shouldn't be ruled out.

Take care I intend to use my

Volvo V40 Cross Country AWD.

I assume the volumes showing in the central spine of the region is due to the orographic lift?

Yes, we usually do well from these types of setups for that very reason

If we get to 19 days that would be very impressive, particularly given a breakdown was predicted for this coming Thursday by the GFS only yesterday!

No doubt, like you, I’ll be employing the AWD of my XC60 in the coming week as I’m sure I’ll be commissioned by the wife into transport duties for weekly supermarket shopping!  Her little VW Up just doesn’t cut it!!

Current conditions here:

Temp 3.3c

Dew 2.2c

Still a long way to go for anything of a wintry note here near Malton.

Seen as we are talking cars heres my snowplough, 4wd VW Golf with 4 winter tyres.

Only problem is its on 35mm lowering springs so not much ground clearance, here she is ploughing through about a foot of snow last month above Helmsley on North York Moors.

Yeah a breakdown was possible by Thursday. I'm no expert it's just from experience a 1056mb is impressive and generally stubborn to be pushed away easily....

I'm not the most knowledgeable poster

But have 30 years of chart viewing under my belt.

Enjoy your XC60.

I've just put 4 Continental winter tyres on mine for extra grip and fun they make a massive difference imo.

And reduce the risk of my Air bags popping out  .

Temps down to 4.0c East Hull ?️❄️

3.7°C here now, still with 99% humidity - grrrr.... Some patches of green have been appearing over Hull and N Lincs on the NW Radar in the last hour or so in association with the heavier bursts of precipitation. Nothing sleety here yet today.

Its going to be a slow burn isn't it? Note the heavy showers forming out in the north sea for a bit later on though.

No movement in dew points over East Anglia yet however the next very heavy batch over Lincolnshire for south/west Yorkshire may do some damage given temperatures are mostly 2-4C already before that pushes stuff down.
