A slight "dusting" of wet snow over the top of Irton Moor heading into town. Some nice flakes making it down closer to sea level, but not got a real chance of laying at at this level. Story of this winter really!

Actually it has turned to wet snow now! the temp has now dropped to 1.5°C with a DP of 1.1°C. Not sticking obviously

Well done Yorkshire smashed it ill see you all closer to the weekend.

(The gfs has it woefully wrong)

Northern blocking should be pressuring this low pressure with each passing run as +AAM will be getting under forecast agaim

Chance of a newsworthy spell - 80% for me.

Not a massive amount here, probably 3 or 4cm at most, still looks pretty though, and I make it the 4th snowfall of this winter so far.

Is nobody worried about what the gfs is like this morning or is it an outlier ?

We should all be concerned as it's been an annoying feature for days but the fact the Euro dropped it and UKMO agrees suggests GFS is probably wrong.

Odds are perhaps 70/30 against the spoiler low here in Yorkshire (that is to say it getting far enough north west to disrupt our easterlies).

Would this require a red warning

By Monday afternoon as much as 19in (48cm) of snow had already fallen in parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and 17in (43cm) in New York City.

Just drizzle and thaw here now as the last dregs of the frontal overhang catch us.

Measured 5cm around 8am though in LS12 so not bad.

9 days falling snow, 4 lying.

So ended up with about 5-6cm.on hard surfaces in cleckheaton, no grass to measure on. Reports from home are 8cm so matching the Thursday event a few weeks ago. Not bad at all! Pictures from Garforth sent by my mum and dadIMG-20210202-WA0004.thumb.jpg.b61771ddc7035393e77a0ed4e4fdb6a3.jpgIMG-20210202-WA0005.thumb.jpg.6b15d87c3ba950678719edf43ac25ef8.jpgIMG-20210202-WA0003.thumb.jpg.d3af89bcfe13f14ef92adf7af1b894e6.jpg

GFSP cooking up plenty of snow from the East for Sunday.  GFS almost gets there but a few hours later.

9cm at 9am this morning in Shirecliffe Sheffield but the thaw had began - constant awful drizzle / freezing drizzle (hanging off the washing line). Snow sliding off the car and falling from the trees.

A good fall!

Great ECM, UKM, GEM and also the 6z GFS para is great. Not so good is the standard GFS.

Got to say the ECM called this quite well - it was right, this low pressure system is delaying the cold to the weekend - GfS was suggesting it would be here mid week prior to yesterday. Let’s hope the standard GFS is now wrong!

From experience though a cold eastern US normally fires the jet and leaves us in milder weather. We will hope this doesn’t happen on this occasion.
