end of jan into feb sounds interesting

Confidence for this period is low, though there is a signal for weaker than average westerly winds and for Atlantic low-pressure systems to track further south than normal. This will bring below-average temperatures to the north of the UK, as well as a higher likelihood of wintry precipitation. Further south, there is a continued risk of unsettled conditions, with above-average rainfall and periods of slightly above average temperatures. There remains the potential for significant snowfall along the boundary between colder air to the north and the milder air in the south, with the greatest risk across central and northern areas. Through this period there is a greater than average chance of cold spells spreading across the whole UK at times with the associated risk of wintry hazards

Morning! I guess the ppn missed our area overnight? Snow coverage is almost intact, most surfaces our frozen, some dripping on the edges of the roofs.

It seems we missed the heaviest of the rain here in Barnsley, so we are holding on to snow cover longer, but we have lost some overnight and its dripping everywhere.  It’s also now mostly gone from the trees and hedgerows.

I reluctantly cleared the thickest snow off the drive yesterday but that still left it white but this morning that has largely gone.  Still good cover on the lawns and other places not cleared.

Hopefully we’ll be in for some more as the cold returns at the end of next week, after a less cold interlude!

Steady thaw here as temps rise. Weather front weaker than expected we basically went through the gap in the front.

Anyway first we've had total cover for two days since march 2018

Just popped into the SE regional thread. Looks like being a general failure for snow there bar certain areas with elevation.....

It was always meant to be a quick snow to rain transition event. In nowcast the system moved way too faster than it was expected. METO just raised the expectations with an illogical amber warning. I wouldn't judge so much the METO warning if it was for a weekday morning with heavy commuting but for a Saturday under (supposedly) strict lockdown and just a few people working it was at least unrealistic.

Ridiculous amber warning from the met office yesterday, was crystal clear that there would be no appreciable snow anywhere this morning apart from a quick snow to rain transition. The only way it could have been would have been for an evaporative cooling event. The front was far too fast moving, plus there was never going to be a void of winds.

A slight covering here first thing before it turned back to rain. Very similar to Thursday in fact, our first proper covering of snow still managing to evade us here.

Head to the SE thread for some of the most incredibly optimistic snow depth measurement estimates you have ever seen! Someone insisting they have an inch and a half, it's maybe a cm at best going by their pictures. Someone else says 3 inches and it's clearly less than an inch! Have to echo the mockery of the Met office's warnings for the 2 events... An Amber for a dusting on a Saturday morning down there and a yellow that only expanded to cover the whole of West Yorkshire halfway through the 4 inch Friday rush hour event up here!

I'm lost for words!

All three rapid COVID testing centres in Luton have been shut because of snow in the area, the council has said.

It comes after the Met Office warned that parts of southeast England and East Anglia will continue to see further snow on Saturday, with between 2cm and 4cm falling over the coming hours.

Well temp is now 3c and a rapid thaw is happening drip drip drip
