The warning last night was too narrow and for it to be updated after the event had already begun is really embarrassing for British meteorology.

totally over the top  with the dig at the MET there , hardly embarrassing in probably one of the hardest weather types (snow)) to forecast on an Island off the second largest ocean surround by warmer seas , they got the the board strokes correct if not to the sq inch !! which is far better than the predictions and back slapping we have seen in the MOD thread

I say enjoy the hobby, enjoy the snow , enjoy the chase

Easily the most snow here since March 2018. One of the snow ploughs from Temple Newsam went by this morning - been a while since I’ve seen one.

The front will wiggle around now as Scott says ultimately no huge thermodynamic swings for the area now so for Yorkshire the precip type will likely remain quite stable.

It does look like its pivoting and moving west slowly now I'm guessing it has to if the warning area re the midlands will come into fruition because the ppn has left the mids in the main atm

Light to moderate snow all morning - we seem to be on the edge of the blue/green precip here in N.Sheffield, so hopefully the expansion will continue and we double what's settled so far (at least!)  5.5cm so far.

Surely the iPhone weather app is wrong when it suggests places like Bradford, Leeds and Harrogate have got rain now??

100% wrong. Current temp is 0C and it’s snowing heavily,

Not when all the high res data and thermodynamic equations supported the outcome we have seen materialize today. Why the holding back? Anyway, I have made my point and I do not wish to have a debate about the Met.

Yes, it moved east last minute so 850hpa 0 line is causing issues here. It's light powdery snow here.

I might get 5cm if I'm lucky.

You'll get yours in Buxton, only a matter of time until one of the systems swings up from the Atlantic and smashes the Peak district

Measured 11cm on the hard/high level surfaces and 12-13cm on the grass here. Heavy snow continues.
