It's looking good isn't it, can't believe how quickly temperature is dropping now. Now 0.4 at 300ft.

Looks like the precipitation is due to be much heavier than initially forecast, that could have a big impact on how low snow line gets to and total accumulations

Yeah it was these rates and stalling nature of the band that called for me and Kasim to discuss a bigger event than the met were suggesting.

We still have to see but its playing out like a beautiful tune

0.3c here cant believe I've had a temperature fall of 0.7c in just 30 minutes, before even the heavy stuff arrives lol

Suggests the air is quite dry! Didnt expect that

Morning all

Mostly snow falling here now, some ice pellets, slushy film on the ground so far, hoping for proper covering soon. 0.2c

i cant see how you dont smash out 5cm + now mate

Haha me neither like you say heavier precipitation will be a game changer, once it starts coming down heavy could be some big surprise accumulations. Just need temp at magic 0c now for 100% settling potential lol

This always happens on the western side of the cold air it is like a turbulent cold front, very messy mixed precip type then > big snow flakes will appear above 150m as the organized frontal wave behind moves in.. Below this it will arrive as heavy sleet then > Evaporative cooling.

The 850s are 3 hours quicker this suggests potentially 3 hours more snowfall than forecast mate.

It will likely exit 3 hours earlier though.

Not according to the euro 4 it exits 8pm

I believe we have a quick under cut of cold air not modelled correctly

At 12pm we have -6 850s on the east coast! Marginality fast dropping

The -6 on the coast will be sleet imo.

Inland yes this is very positive > cold air is advecting SW well. Precip has held up too. Quite a good event coming up.

You surely have to agree the cold air has undercut much more cleanly than suggested the past 2 days?

Yes I agree the cold air injection has improved as the system has shifted west. This was modelled well yesterday though, nothing too drastic has happened in the last 6 hours.

Yes, we're all excited.

P.s., nice to see the high res models yesterday were correct in their well structured precip with a slightly colder base.

Yes the wrf looks very good again so far!

Euro 4 is pure filth for most central parts of the region. Amazing.

Unfortunately the east misses out again, York, Doncaster etc.  Seems like warmer conditions near the coast too, places where it is snowing now like Durham and Newcastle forecast to turn back to rain as the wind comes in off the sea.
