Reports of freezing rain above 300m, inversion is becoming increasingly shallow > less warming of rain droplets > optimal conditions for freezing upon contact.

Surprisingly snowing here in Thornton-le-Dale, North Yorks (not much above sea level). Wet, but settling. The Moors will be getting a pasting

Significant upgrade in the intensity of the precipitation on the met office model.

This could bring the snow level down even further

I think 65% of even lowland Yorkshire will be covered by 2-7cm (1 to 3 inches), 5-15cm over high ground. Again I feel the Met will fall short with their rather limited (imo) warning area.

Hmmm, even with the latest data the meto model is still showing the freezing level around 200m. I could see a temporary wet covering potentially below 100m, but it would be very marginal and even if the ppn is heavy enough it would most likely alternate between rain, sleet and wet snow.

You are right it wont be snow 100% which is why the accumulations are limited, as there will be 25mm+ of liquid equivalent precipitation during this period. Note these two areas currently have snow, both are well below the current freezing line. Atm I would be very surprised if Sheffield suburbs doesn't get within the 2-5cm range.

Moderate rain here, the automated met office forecast has it changing to sleet at 5am and snow shortly after. We've had nearly 15mm of rain so far, would have been ace if it had been all snow! Speaking of which, has anyone got any white stuff yet?

Working in Seacroft at the moment at 125m als.  Its been rain all night here, sometimes light, sometimes a little heavier but just rain, not a hint of sleet.

Temp according to an outside thermometer is 0.7.

The automated Met Office forecast is very much an upgrade - heavy snow from 6am to 2pm with temps of 0°C.

Should hopefully start changing in the next couple of hours.
