As it stands guys we are out of the picture completely. Will be a Far East affair this....not even a god damn snowy breakdown.

Hopefully a change in fortune with the models over the weekend.

This is exactly the point I have been trying to hammer home. There's so much hype with easterlies and they do bring some of the coldest air but they almost always keep Wales dry.

It's frustrating because if we were to get snow coverage this weekend it would have almost certainly lasted on the ground a week and brought notable cold nights.

This is exactly why easterlies bore me!

Not in your area you will get covering question how much.

Not this weekend, can't see any snow getting across from the East of the UK. Maybe next week if snow pushes in from the SW.

You got 70 percent chance of snow showers all down eastern fringe of Wales .Heavier pp in S east Wales.Especially Sunday.

Sounds good. We’ve been lucky in Cardiff this year for snow, (maybe apart from the South of Cardiff) Hopefully get some more.

Isn’t anyone here just looking forward to a bit of dry weather?  A bit of snow would be nice but no rain for a week even if it’s freezing cold makes a nice change from the miserable grey dross we’ve had for months.

There is still a snowy breakdown on the ECM this morning for Thursday / Friday, all hope is not lost! This weekend was never going to be the main event anyway

Also it shows this for Sunday, and don't forget the ECM outperformed almost all other models last weekend

GEM also goes for a snowy breakdown next week, remember don't just take the GFS model as gospel. It is notably poor at dealing with cold / Easterlies and much prefers it when we are in a normal westerly regime.

Going to be fascinating watching how the approaching low pressure from the Atlantic progresses.  Could be a proper high risk/high reward scenario for us in wales.  This morning shows a snow to rain event for all of us.  Just 24hrs ago an all snow event.  Too far out to know with any certainty at this stage.

Latest Icon has the snow across east Wales late Saturday night. Would give a covering before the very cold easterly feed sets in. Very uncertain this and how west it comes though.

Following this, as others have touched on above, Wales isn't the main focus of precipitation given the wind direction for the following days but very cold. However can't rule out showers in the east when the easterly wind is at its strongest.

Thursday onwards, we then watch with interest. Fingers crossed the cold block puts up a good fight.

ICON showing this feature for early hours of Sunday, moving south west (gradually weakening) main interest will be over east Wales but wouldnt rule out a few flakes even in the south.

The talk of breakdown Thursday/Friday - which is great for prolonging the cold as it was Tuesday/Wednesday for disruptive snow moving in from the South West - but what that also mean is any meaningful snow cover (more than 10cm) isn't really evident in Wales for a good 7 days + and as I said yesterday this will be pushed back continuously. What we need is a slight northerly feed to the air stream even for a window of around 24 hours, enough to get showers across Wales.

Happy to have an easterly then until the cows come home, it's long lasting snow cover I crave not depth of snow. It's really frustrating knowing that we will miss out on the opportunity of long lasting snow cover if it pans out like this, because once we have snow, the milder air will slowly dislodge the colder air and we will not have that lovely snowy spell.

I know I'm being very IMBY because I really dislike easterlies (Apart from the Sunny weather element).

Another model output suite with the writing on the wall. Too much energy in the lows from the Atlantic that will be just rain as they push through the cold block.

if the ukmo starts showing this in the output then may as well look further on in to February for decent and long lasting snow opportunities

Paid a becso Jay I wouldn't take much notice of the Met Office automated forecasts, Last Sunday is case in point! Ignore them, they are meaningless 12 hours out let alone almost a whole week!

6 days away in an ever evolving and unusual setup.  Things will keep changing till at least Tuesday.  Just remember how much those automated forecasts changed last weekend.

But got a warning for ice

This is their report from last night no mention of ice

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday expect bright spells and showers, showers most widespread in the east, and wintry later. Sunday and Monday generally cloudy and much colder. Snow showers possible, especially north and east.

Updated: 16:00 (UTC) on Thu 4 Feb 2021

And as Cymro says look at last week they were saying dry BBQ weather here and we had snow (ok maybe not BBQ but you know what i mean), they cant predict what's happening the following day.  not alone 3 or 4 days . There is a lot of guesswork and computer calculations. which are only as good as the people inputting information.

They will also air on the side of caution as just look at the stick they have received for issuing warnings and nothing happened. The last thing they want to do is go over the top either way  during a pandemic, with panic buying this far out on something so uncertain
