A weird one mate ,, perhaps when it's low level cloud dropping heavy drizzle , still lashing it down type , does not appear on the Radar.  What has appeared on the radar is when the rain drops got a lot bigger .. i.e. the last 20 mins or so

Windy . yes , currently F5 / F6 with gusts to F7 , variable cloud at low to mid level , but plenty of sun and blue sky, and warm in the sunny spells.

So was the place ever found? I hate it when threads are polluted with cliff hangers like above these days on the web, You then you go to answer and 'Cliiiiiiiick' most threads locked in archive mode from years ago so you cannot reply and nobody  knows what the hell your saying if you make a new one to answer an old one filled with nonsense or vague answers.

here goes latest news from Wales online. Makes you laugh

What the Met Office says about reports it is going to snow in October - Wales Online

"Later in this period, there is the chance for settled conditions to become more widely prevalent across the UK. Temperatures are likely to be around or slightly above average."

But meteorological expert Dave told ITV's This Morning last week: "There's a snow moon on the 29th of October, followed by two more snow moons in the first three weeks of November. So it is gonna be bitterly cold and very frosty."

Who is Dave?

Mail is jumping on board now

In Yorkshire, the Met Office predicts temperatures will fall by as much as 10C with snow expected to fall during the month.

Meteorological expert Dave King said on This Morning: 'It is gonna be bitterly cold and very frosty.

'That's bad news for people with gas and electric because your bills are going through the roof.'

I put my washing out in expectation of forecasted supadupah sunny warm weather.  Drearily grey and circa 15C.  Ah well, it’s October……

Well Sunday was jolly nice, wasn’t it?  Washing dried in no time.   Today sun wants to push through cloud, but mist rolling down off the hills with mizzle.  12C

Well that didn’t happen.  I expect Dave has a reasonable explanation, though .     It’s actually pretty mild for October and so far we’ve managed to avoid the usual early Autumn storms so that’s a relief.  Quite a lot of rain expected this week now, so the mini ‘Indian’ summer is well and truly over.  No sign of frosts in this part of the world but it can all turn round in 24 hours so everything is possible……

Not too bad a day yesterday, heady heights of 13c and sunny with a bit of a brisk wind.  Today, meh blergh, 13c, cloudy mizzly with cloud rolling off the hills and a warm and gusty wind.

Return to blergh meh all day, but very warm with it.  Got drenched walking dog number One this am, then mizzled on and windswept with Dog  number TWO this lunchtime.  Ground too soggy to a garden on my afternoon off, and too warm to plant bulbs. Moan moan moan…..    BUT the water tables need it.  However very much hope for cooler dryer or cooler wetter conditions next week as walking two more dogs up a bloomin steep hill.

Log burner on, it may be mild outside but the good old Welsh  slate walls have kept it cooler in than out……

After a morning of torrential rain, followed by brisk autumn winds, it’s now cloudy, windy, temps a more ‘normal’ 13c.  A good 2-3 degrees cooler on the tops, with very strong winds.  No Norman Dog walk today, thank goodness.

Was in Snowdonia only a week ago when it was mild and quite sunny at times.  No hint of snow then!   The weather can turn so quickly from Autumn to Winter at the summit if the conditions are right.  Such a beautiful mountain - when you can see it!

My first post on here in a very long time. I can't say I'm enjoying this Autumn as much as I normally do, thanks to the abnormal warmth, excess rain and a lack of those cool, still, foggy days or sunshine to really show off the colours, so my thoughts are turning to winter. I found the following photos on a local history website; it seems to have been a hefty fall of snow, I'd guess 30-40cm. They were taken halfway up the Valleys in Nelson but I have no idea when, other than clearly in the 1990s due to the Vauxhall Astra in the first photo.

Can anyone with a memory that goes this far back hazard a guess as to when this was? I wasn't born until 1990 and my mental almanac of weather events goes back no earlier than the early 2000s. Thanks.

My guess would be either the Feb 1994 easterly or, given the depth of snow, possibly the early Feb 1996 battleground that plastered the west!

Feb. '96 seems most likely to me. I have a fuzzy memory of an event as a very young boy where there was enough snow for the local kids to build a snow fort, something I wouldn't have remembered if it had been Feb. '94 (being three at the time). Did this event bring a lot of snow to Somerset too? It doesn't seem to be one that looms large in the memory of winter fans, perhaps because it affected the west instead of the south and southeast.

Yes, most of them posted by me! That's an event that has legendary status in the Valleys and goes to show how easy it is for inland South Wales to turn extremely snowy indeed once cold air is in place, probably easier than in any other southern part of the UK, because of our location and geography. Here are a few more from Nelson in 1982, not sure if I've posted these before. Truly a huge amount of snow.

Yes indeed, we had quite a bit of snow here as the front just stalled over the western side of the UK. By the end of the day we had a good 20-25cm, not as much as some further north mind. Definitely one of the best snowfalls in my lifetime.

Hmm.. tricky one that. L reg cars were registered from 1994 but I don't know what time if year. If anyone knows if they were start or end of the year then we may be able to suss out the year. I remember Feb 96 really well. My first year of comprehensive school, started snowing around 10.30 am and didn't STOP all day and all night. School sent us home but the buses couldn't get there til half 3, then we spent the next  few days sledging and doing what kids should do in the snow...HAVING FUN!!!

Great pictures - a real winter!  Not sure whether we’ll ever see the like again if temperatures continue to rise as they are, but you never know - a really cold blast from the east might be possible if the conditions are just right.  Gets less likely with every passing year, though.
