After reviewing the chart types in some depth the ECMWF seems to be very consistent in forecasting this cold spell continuing, bringing a strong risk of heavy snow Thursday / Friday. The GFS has been all over the shop, last night it was giving me temps of around 11degress for weekend coming but has now changed it’s mind. Attached is the current ECMWF by the ‘windy’ app.

Historically, the GFS always struggle to model the Atlantic against a block over the UK, it often doesn't get it nailed till 24-48 hours before the event. What is interesting though is there is beginning to be a consensus that the cold will last beyond this week, and the Atlantic will keep trying to win bringing repeating risks of snow to our area as it does so!

BBC showing heavy snow and chance of showers all day .....but met office nothing for today .....who will be right as massive difference.

I think it will be bbc as it already snowing very very lightly now....going to be hit and miss ..some may get very lucky if they hit a big shower

Same here, very odd! Would love it to be correct, but would be very surprised if it was too!

This will be exciting whatever way it goes, the Met Office is going completely against BBC and other forecasts, predicting the Atlantic to smash its way through. Who will be the winner of this do you think?

Please bare in mind, I'm the furthest West so you guys will be more in with a shout of serious snow further East if temps lift slightly.

Can we all agree one thing? For the sake of sanity? Automated weather app forecasts are about as useful as Gareth Davies’ kick last minutes of yesterday’s game against ireland. Don’t worry about them they are hopeless!

I  agree. My location is saying heavy snow showers on BBC app but its dry as a bone, there has been some very light snizzle from the thicker clouds that just went by

Indeed, Id still be cautious of any front making it into Wales at this stage, the ECM and UKV do look promising at the moment. The apps chop and change like no tomorrow as they are fed new data. Liam Dutton did a good write up on his Facebook page with regards to this cold spell and he mentioned the weather apps.

Just recently had a few tiny flakes here.

So snow is looking likely Thursday night?

Looking good at the moment mate. ECM, GEM and UKV currently on board. Even the met office app says yes, although wouldn't take that too literally at the moment.

Nice snowy walk with Sibyl the springer spaniel this morning in the Chestnut groves.  Biting wind mind and it took 40 minutes for my hands and feet to get warm.  Now a very teeny layer of bobble snow, and little floaty beads of snow.
