One for Jay

The Met Office snow forecast for where you live in Wales

Most areas likely won't see any snowfall until the earlier hours of Sunday

All of Wales and much of the United kingdom is currently under a yellow warning for snow and ice from the Met Office.

The warning has been in place since 4pm on Friday until 10.30pm on Saturday night.

However, another warning for snow and ice has been issued for most of Wales, and covers all of south Wales, from 3am on Sunday morning, until 6pm that evening.

The Met Office has warned that some places will see as much as five to 10cm of snow.

Its weather forecast for Saturday says: "Showers will continue at times across many areas, these largely of rain and sleet at low levels across southern England and southern Wales and near coasts but will be of sleet and snow elsewhere.

"These will bring a cover of snow in places. 1-3 cm could accumulate at low levels, mostly across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England but as much as 5-10 cm of additional snow may accumulate at higher levels of these areas. Clear skies between showers will also bring the threat of ice."

Here's what it's looking like where you live...

Cardiff

While Wales' capital city does come under the weather warning for snow and ice, the city is unlikely to see any on Saturday.

It is set to be a sunny day for Cardiff, with clear skies predicted for most of the day and a less than 5% chance of precipitation.

Temperatures will reach 5C by 1pm but continue to drop from 3pm onwards.

There is a chance that the city could see snowfall overnight, with a 50% chance of a sleet shower at 5am, and a 60% chance of sleet falling between 6am and 7am.

However, by 8am the icy showers are predicted to turn to rain. This is expected to clear up by 11am.

The rest of Sunday looks dry for the city with some showers expected.

Swansea

As with Cardiff and most towns and villages near the Welsh coast, it is unlikely Swansea will see any snow today.

It is set to be a sunny day for the city with less than a 5% chance of rainfall.

Overnight, there is a 70% chance the city could see some sleet at 5am, but that is expected to turn to heavy rain by 6am.

Sunday is set to be a bit cloudier than Saturday, with the chance of precipitation being at 20% between 8am and 10am.

Rhondda Cynon Taf

According to the Met Office, RCT will also see a sunny day with a low chance of rain, but temperatures remain lower with highs of 3C.

However, the Sunday morning snow fall is more likely in the local authority.

There is a 90% chance of heavy snow falling in the area between 5am and 9am, with the snow falling lighter by 10am.

If the area does see snow fall overnight, the rest of the day is expected to be clear of any snow fall and the sun will peak through the clouds at times. There is a 10% chance it will rain on Sunday.

Blaenau Gwent

It is also unlikely to snow in Blaenau Gwent on Saturday, with the area also expecting to see sunshine through much of the day with highs of 3C.

By early Sunday morning however, heavy snow is predicted to fall between 5am and 10am.

The remainder of Sunday will likely be cloudy in the area.

Newport

Newport will likely see no snow fall on Saturday and the day will likely remain clear until 3pm as some cloud covers the sky.

Sunday morning, at 5am, there is a 50% chance the area will see sleet, and that is expected to last until 10am.

From then onwards Sunday is set to be a cloudy day with a 10% chance of rain.

Brecon

There is a 30% chance that Brecon will see some snowfall at 10am on Saturday but the rest of the day is set to be cloudy with bursts of sunshine. This is expected to clear by 3pm.

On Sunday, the area will likely see heavy snow between 5am and 7am, but it will likely remain snowing until 10am.

The rest of Sunday will see heavy clouds cover the area.

Tenby

There will be clear skies in Tenby on Saturday with a less than 5% chance of rain, with highs of 5C.

On Sunday morning, when some parts of Wales will see snow, the area will likely see rainfall between 2am and 7am.

Carmarthen

There will likely be no snowfall in Carmarthen on Saturday and the area will see mostly sunshine.

However, at 3am on Sunday it is likely to see light snowfall which could turn to sleet by 5am until 7am.

It will likely rain at 9am but the rest of the day should be clear of rainfall.

Aberystwyth

Snow may fall in Aberystwyth at 10am but if it does it will likely be light and not last long.

The rest of the day is predicted to be cloudy with some rain fall at 1pm.

On Sunday there is no snow or rain predicted for the seaside town but temperatures will remain as low as 3C.

Caerphilly

A clear Saturday for Caerphilly, with most of the day seeing no clouds and highs of 4C.

On Sunday light and heavy snowfall is predicted between the hours of 5am and 10am.

The rest of the day is set to be cloudy with a low chance of rain.

Looks like there is a high chance of rain near the coasts judging by that forecast, hopefully the system comes in a bit earlier than forecast and temps are slightly lower giving everyone a chance

Updated MetO warning highlighting the marginal at coasts situation, still looking good for most places though!

Well... I'm up at 4am to milk the cows. No lamposts here, but I'll bring my phone down to the shed and see what the sky throws at us, and I believe we are the closet point to Ireland. Today is cold and dry DP. 1.6  high of 4degrees so far. Windspeed max 6mph. Beautiful sunrise at the office this morning.

At least its not raining

Yes, I think that's the Met Office's current thinking too, hence the maximum snow depths being in that area.

For those in Swansea the 2 problems will be marginal temps and the possiblity of light precipitation which if true will likely result in rain or sleet as per the latest ARPEGE. The flow appears to be from the SW/S and ill be amazed if i see any falling snow from that. Northern parts of Swansea with elevation have a better chance.

Latest Euro4 for tomorrow. Some good snowfall and depths inland. Unfortunately another swing to rain/sleet near the coasts in the south.

Plenty of time for it to change the other way. Onto the 12z’s!

Thanks for posting those, razor edge stuff where some modest elevation and/or being that bit further inland makes all the difference.

Right now I’d take just seeing a few flakes falling from the sky after the last few winters we’ve had here in Swansea I’m a little bit further from the coast so fingers crossed my alarms set for an early one
