Today is the 11th anniversary of the UK record 24 hour rainfall when 316.4mm fell at Seathwaite Farm, near Borrowdale in the Lake District. The rainfall at Seathwaite at that time also broke the records for 2, 3, 4 and 7 days. There was widespread flooding and disruption in the Lakes. With acknowledgements to Trevor Harley for this information.

Yes a memorable day for the wrong reasons. Watching rivers rise... locally nearly as bad as December 5 2015. Both events caused by a long waving weather front that sent pulses of heavy rain in exceptionally mild air. Both occurred during two very mild months, record breaking in 2015.

This was one of the few days that month where rain didn’t fall at all here. It was just cloudy and windy, and happened to be the mildest day of the month after the 1st. All change the following day though as the front that had stalled further northwest obviously made progress across the country.
