Not going to be fooled by the short and medium term modelling (as I did for this November)...milder before mid-month so 5.9c for me please.

It won’t be a milder first half 100% sure, I actually can’t be more confident. In the case of November it was high pressure which established in wrong places. The outlook is more familiar lower pressure but colder variety on cold side of jet stream.

Possibly the coldest December since 2010,  but nowhere near those values, we've had a run of milder than average Decembers since, only just in 2012 and 2017. I'll go a little below average 4.4 degrees. First 10 days currently looking cold, perhaps a milder middle, then something colder again later. A bit like 2017 in this respect. Much will depend on how long we see a disconnect between the Stratosphere and Troposphere. Could be a very NW/N type month with a temporary westerly feed mid-month. Azores high will be displaced quite far to the west, and we will be locked on the colder side of the jet for lengthy periods.

I'd take a milder middle if it means a cold christmas. Not had a cold christmas for 10 years. It would be sods law given the misery of 2020, that the run up christmas brings blizzards and snowfall, preventing travel, I would not be surprised at all given how this year has gone..
