At least yesterday the awful murk cleared late am to a mostly sunny afternoon before the thick/dense fog returned late evening. Not so today, what is even more galling is the sun is only a few miles away south and east of here. Overcast and foggy here, 4-500 M I would estimate with a temperature of 6.4 C. I calculated off the skew-T for Doncaster at 00z it needed 8C to start to clear it, so I suspect we may not clear this afternoon. Could be one of those events where it begins to clear in the evening. So two days on the trot with dense fog at 0900, pretty unusual these days, I can't remember the last time it happened here.
