"Temperatures in Ravensworth, North Yorkshire, dropped to minus 15.3C overnight on Thursday, a record February low for England."

Look  North tonight said it got to -16C without mentioning a record. Was -15.3C a record? It seems a little lower than  would expect. Maybe it was a record low for Ravensworth?

Met Office tweet from December 2012:

@hillbilly that temperature you mentioned above was unofficial.

Recorded official minimum temperature for that Winter/month is shown above in my quoted post (also in the Met Office tweet below) - Trevor Harley website information is wrong.

@Aleman @damianslaw Official lowest temperature in England this Winter so far in the tweet below
Definitely not an all time minimum February record for England - ignore the papers nonsense.

Could someone post the England current minimum value for the season.

Still time to beat it, but perhaps a tall order now on, but early-mid March can still deliver very low cold temperatures. The Scottish figure looks safe though.

Yes still possible,-22.8 deg has been recorded in Scotland as late as 14th March so still theoretically possible .

Also -21.1 deg has been recorded in England as late as 4th March and -15 deg has been set as late as 2nd April in England!

It's a shame because had conditions been a little more favourable England might have recorded a much lower minimum. Minus 15.3C isn't bad, but England can certainly do much better.

Was great to see the -23C in Braemar though!!

Perhaps lack of deep snow cover combined with light winds reason why. There was still a bit of a NE wind on the night when -15.3 recorded, needed more of a ridge to build over the UK, Scotland was closer to the centre of heights to the NE.

Last week feels a world away from this weekend, when many are unlikely to see mons drop much into the high low single digits, indeed for many double digit mins. A classic cold to mild winter switcharound.
