little bit late but happy new year to everyone.

looking like a very cold night here, already down to -3.

very interesting model watching and looking likely that we will see some snow soon

Wow! That's some impressive radiation cooling at a spot that doesn't usually cool down that way. I am about 8 miles to the southeast of the airport and my station is hovering at 0 and -1.

Lovely day to wake up to, blue skies the day followed by high cloud. High of 4.1c but dropped to -0.7c, DP -1.6c. Looking forward to the cold spell and the chance to lamppost watch over the coming weeks.

Probably. Lots of badly positioned external sensors never helps! Quite frequently though Edinburgh Airport is the coldest.

There's a fair few of us who should follow @CatchMyDrift's lead and move somewhere snowy. Scotland really isn't any more, as someone pointed out the other day, you can have wonderful synoptics (pretty much as we have now and forecast for several more days) but there's so little deep cold left in the arctic these days that old fashioned monster snow events are like hens' teeth. So what we're left with are damp squibs unless you live inland and at altitude. 

I guess our best bet for getting snow would be to figure out how to take an extended winter holiday in Scandinavia - the challenge as usual is the cost. And possibly not plan it till covid is well and truly behind us!

New year, same old weather 

Classic Permagloom™ with the added frisson of some light rain showers and occasional bright spells.

Small diurnal range the last 24 hours, low of 1.2c and a high of 4.2c (currently 1.4c). Noticeable change in wind direction to the WNW.

Mood in the model discussion here and on the other site seems mixed about future developments, best methinks to just take each day as it comes.

Just had a snow flurry.  I wasn't expecting that!

After a couple of very wet and milder days, a switch back to light snow and ice. Currently 1C.
