Tell you what is good about this current spell and the outlook - anyone with a semi-decent depth of snowfall on the ground will keep it for a long time! Hopefully any rainfall/sleet does not do any damage within the next couple/few hours.

I know some of you have already had snowfall on the ground for a few days now - especially our higher ground folk.

Overnight is cold again for many and then daytime temperatures start to plummet again. (Risk of ice days return for some) @shuggee more of those Narnia forest pictures please over the coming days/weeks!

All roads lead to cold at the moment.

Didn’t expect the precipitation to reach here never mind it fall as snow. Seems nothing like the forecast. Even with a bit of elevation, I am often too far west for snow and those further inland with less elevation can do much better. Above freezing and now transitioning to rain. I really needed an extra 40 or 50 metres elevation. 

But, nice to get out in the snow this morning.

Yeah, just need to see this sleety rain to clear without doing too much damage to the snow cover and a freeze tonight, hopefully. My kids have been sledging every day since Tuesday and it would be a shame if that came to an end. They are even out just now in the damp conditions which is pretty hard core and wouldn’t be me.

Snow still piling down here at -0.5°C. Main A road turning white and when I take Finn down to the Tweed later I'll measure depth. I'm expecting temp to continue to rise as everyone has said and break above zero - will be first time for 40 hours. Looking at radar there is a lot of ppn to come for next few hours and keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm old enough to remember the winters Aberdeen used to get during the 70s and 80s. It regularly snowed over the winter months, while snow in November and March wasn't uncommon.

Winters started to change up these parts in the mid 80s.

I'm just old enough to remember the winters of the 60s but spent many a drunken Hogmany of the 80s first footing through blizzards on foot from Garthdee to Northfield...well, at least two!

After a decent snowfall yesterday, I woke to far less snow and much more rain than I thought I would.

Currently 4.9c, up from a minimum of -2.5c.

Temperatures hovered between zero and 1C this morning with light drizzle at times after the heavier early wintry mix.(pic below) Some blue sky about now and the temperature has jumped over 2 degrees in the last hour to 3C.   Still very icy underfoot though as you can see from the street outside my house just now.

Garthdee over to Northfield is a bit if a hike, more so in deep snow. The drink probably helped pass the journey lol.

My Grandfather stayed in Garthdee and was forever showing me pictures of the time the North Sea froze. The pictures were taken around fittie. Dont recall the year but it must have been super cold.

Most of snow gone now but raw wind from the north off the Firth.Lying snow level round the Firth seems to be about 750 feet and hills above are just plastered.   Currently 5c and overcast. but blue skies to the north make mevthink we will at least see a ground frost tonight A very seasonal  looking sky and landscape.

This morning was lovely and the past few days fantastic but this afternoon is absolute misery! Cold rain, lying snow turning to slush etc.

Well I suppose you could say that weather for the last day of the year here reflects how the year has panned out overall - largely miserable and one most of us would like to forget. Lets hope January brings not only some better weather but a start to a better year overall.

The temp here has dropped from a high of 3.8/3.2C to 2.6/1.9C currently, so maybe if it continues that we can at least get some wintry showers later. Although even during the warmer period I'll swear that looking uphill the rain had a least some wintry element to it, but certainly not evidenced on the ground around my house. We're still valiantly clinging on to dwindling parches of Xmas Eve snow in the sheltered spots and the driveway clearings, but overall the ground is just sodden from the 17mm of rain so far today.

Thought I would get this in now as going to be out for the count shortly as have chest infection so on meds. 

Happy new year to all, hope the snaw gods deliver for all come mid Jan, and the 2021 proves to be a better year than this one.

Best of luck. I'm just back from Tesco over at Galston, which is going like a circus with controlled access to the drinks aisle (well I say 'controlled'; it was more like a scene from 300 Spartans,) and having finally filled my basket, with what non-Scottish people may have considered to be an excessive amount of alcohol, I found a cashier, filled my bags and paid the girl. Then, as I swung one of the bags off the counter thingy, the handles ripped off and four bottles of white, two of red, two of fizz and a tin of baby carrots (well a man has to eat) hit the deck and three bottles smashed. You can imagine my surprise when a couple of assistants appeared, started tidying up the mess and then set about replacing the smashed bottles free of charge. I still can't believe it now. Well done Tesco.

Meanwhile, the temperature has risen to 2.8deg.C and the snow on the roads has melted. However the rain stayed off and the rest of the snow is ready for a good freeze tonight. Just a pity that we're not allowed to go out for a crunchy walk at midnight. The dew point has risen to 2deg.C and diablo, he say rain. So, a pishy end to a pishy year then, but whatever the weather I wish all my fellow Scottie Threaders a damn fine Hogmanay and a far superior New Year.

Right, where's my bottle opener? We're only fifteen minutes away from a bottle of windfall wine...

Quite a day here - 16cm lying snow now (the depth has doubled today). Currently the mildest it's been all day at 0.0/-0.2C. But it's now drizzling. Hoping the ppn will stop asap to preserve my lovely Lord of the Rings scenes:

Just watch the movement of the TPV on the 12z GFS  that’s SERIOUSLY cold air -40 850hpa in amongst it   GFS P not too dissimilar either. Only worth keeping an eye on at that stage but strat warming might have something in store who knows.

It really is a small world. I was at the checkout to your left I’m pretty sure. Seen it happening. Never took in who it happened to and I was too busy running for the drinking straw aisle to aid in the clean up. Did a woman by any chance tell you you dropped your card?
