Light snow in Edinburgh

Good sign for out this way then as ppn still to arrive. However, the radar looks like Edinburgh could struggle getting any meaningful ppn! All the heavier stuff seems to be pushing out west of here! With any luck we can avoid the bulk of the rain which will inevitably arrive at some point.

To @Mr Frost's point - the Met haven't covered themselves in glory this week.

Snowing steadily here, any parts of the road that weren't covered have covered up quickly. There's been no melt on the grass etc over the last few days so anything falling now will top up what's there.

I'm at 200m ASL so I'm hoping when the heavier band hits shortly that it remains snow for at least an hour or 2.

Yeah, would rather miss it if it’s going to  turn to rain anyway and might keep the current snow cover relatively intact.

Light snow on here too.

I’ve noticed during this spell that the radar has often been showing sleet when ‘proper’ snow has been falling. I think someone upthread mentioned this and speculated that an algorithm relating to precipitation type might’ve been changed.

Makes a change to previous years when the radar often showed ‘pink’ for snow while nothing much at all appeared to be falling!

Is this the Mediterranean easterly the Met waffled about in the 10 day trends video?

Rain showers. Apart from that brief wintry spell Xmas Eve I've seen nothing sustained or worthwhile. A big fat bust for us. We just can't get the winds far enough into the north for long enough in wintertime these days.

Completely agree.

I'm old enough to remember the winters Aberdeen used to get during the 70s and 80s. It regularly snowed over the winter months, while snow in November and March wasn't uncommon.

Winters started to change up these parts in the mid 80s.

That ECM day 10 chart would be great for us, classic streamer stuff ..

It’s raining in Glasgow. Temp is -1.

edit- according to the radar it’s rain right across the central belt?

Nasty. I’d be worried about untreated roads and pavements. Last thing the hospitals need is lots of folk with broken bones.
