Just had a big flash of lightning and a loud extended clap of thunder. The third night in a row that I have heard thunder. Very unusual for this time of year or indeed any time if year. Still raining away at 5C.

Yes! Seen a few flashes out my back door facing East and couple of rumbly bangs, don't think I've experienced that at this time of year before 🤪

Good to see some areas getting a bit of a top up today - while this was sort of on the radar (to pardon the pun, especially given the amount of false echoes I saw nearby to start with) it wasn't reall

There was a flash or two of lightning and thunder here in the past hour too. Also a fair bit of flooding locally with a few road closures. Sadly inevitable with a rapid thaw and torrential rain!

no thunder

no lightening

in the tumbleweed capital

nothing ever happens

nothing happens at all

and the needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before

rain been relentless, dog refused to go out there and then left a gift as soon as i vacated the kitchen, he is not a fan of cold or rain.

OMG!

All car alarms in the street going off including mine after lightning/thunder over head. Never had a bigger fright before, that was so close.

Yep! Same this end! Never seen as many house lights on at this hour 🤣😂

Surely not another night of thunder 😂🧐 looks like the instability will be increasing through the night in the North Sea / Firth of Forth, so don’t be surprised to be woken up by more bangs 💣

I doff my hat to you! You nailed it 🤣😂

Didn’t post last night but that storm last night about 1.30 am was mental, woke the whole house up. Frequent lightning, booming thunder, serious hail that turned the street white, alarms going off .... second night in a row !

Woken by rain hammering down and noisy gusts of wind through the trees around an hour ago.  Currently 3.1c, down from 5.5c at midnight and 9.91cm of rain recorded by my station since then.

Dogs enjoyed playing in the wet snow yesterday, at least there were no muddy paws to clean for the most part.

'Mon the winter thunderstorms!

Woken with a loud bang again last night the went back to sleep. Hersel' said it went on for over an hour.

What's driving this though? Are we looking at classic temperature gradients or is it a product of wind sheer? Can't get my head round where the energy is coming from in cold weather.

It is a bit odd, usually thundersnow usually happens with a proper BFTE or a long fetch NW polar maritime flow. Considering the large lack of snow from my 21years of life I have seen thundersnow at least 4 or 5 times from polar maritime NW. Think it may be the only benefit of being on the west coast in winter 😂
