Scotland/Alba weather discussion - Autumn 2020 onwards

Absolutely dead calm this morning, not a hint of a breeze, and the cloud is broken enough to let the sun through from time to time.

Temperature 2.4deg.C up from a minimum of -2.7deg.C at 01:20 and down from a maximum of 2.5deg.C at 11:22, humidity 96%, wind zero, pressure 1006.4hPa steady, no rain and dew point at 2deg.C.

Diablo says snow coming.

Nice day out walking with little beagle today, big beagle couldn't be arsed so stayed at home. They have started clearing the old railway line from leven to thronton junction as part of a 75m pound investment to rejuvanate the river leven area. Alot of work ahead but good to see it started. Cracking winter weather walking day, flat calm, bright  and fresh.

So basically we're all sitting here getting soaked drenched and frozen while some people ^^^ are having the life of Reilly. Hmmmph ?

It's 10 years ago today that I was, with thousands of others, stuck on the motorway all day and most of the night due to snow, I won't forget that in a hurry! 

 

Today was a lot warmer but still seasonal with a max of 2c after an icey start.

A bit overcast today and cool, with a high of 4.4C (currently 2.2C). Surprisingly given the amount of rain we've had, there's still remnants of snow alongside local roads where it was ploughed. Also still wet stuff on the higher areas, including the forestry tracks on the hill behind the house. These are less than 100m higher than the house, but must have caught a lot more snow on Thursday.

Yes, came up as a Facebook memory. Didn’t get stuck on the motorway but I had a day off to go Christmas shopping. Left the house in the rain which quickly turned to snow. Abandoned any idea of trying to get to the shops and then spent over 6 hours trying to drive the 15 miles back home, trying every road I knew! A couple of photos from that day

 

Back to today, cold, crisp and grass never quite thawed completely and frost back now. Noticed in the garden I still have flowering roses and even a small flower on a Hydrangea which is nuts for December.

This has been her first experience of snow as she's only 10mths old. Initially she was a bit hesitant about the cold stuff under her paws but she's taken to it, especially chasing snowballs. She'll go nuts if we get any decent snow.

Remember that day well. I was following the Scottish thread and the model thread discussion thread on Sunday day before the big day. It was so well documentated that something was afoot. The mainstream weather forecasts weren't painting anything as bad. I was woken up at 8am by a call from a band manager as his band were about to travel from Glasgow to Edinburgh Airport to Berlin for a gig. At that point there were snow reports from everywhere but it was sleety (I think we were in a dreaded warm sector) in Clarkston. In a very short time during the phone call it turned to heavy snow. The manager asked if I thought the band should travel from Glasgow to Edinburgh Airport. I said no. They did and ended up stuck in a taxi on the M8 motorway for 10 hours. Thankfully the taxi driver turned off the meter!

Didn't make it into work as I cycle so the wife & I went to the local pub. Here she is going down our outside stairs 'crab style'. The other is photo is taken behind Clarkston library. Last photo is of my covered up motorbike which I didn't use for quite a while.

Good photos of 2010, i'll need to dig some of mine out.  I decided to drive from Hamilton to Edinburgh for work,  thought there would be chaos so got up very early, checked the radar which looked bad (good!) and made it to work before it started. My only error was that I expected the chaos to be over by the time I left work! I didn't have a very supportive boss so had to risk it. 

 

Very thick freezing fog has rolled in here now. I noticed the meto are mentioning the risk of a shower later, so it could get very icey if that happens!!

Cool but sunny here today after an early frost.  Didn't get out as my wife has got me started on what I consider to be unneccesary projects. This one is decorating our smaller usually unused spare bedroom.

Max of 3.9C. Currently 2.1C with a light shower of something that looks a bit sleety.

Little in the way of sunshine contrary to the forecast.

Instead mainly overcast with frequent drizzly showers to keep everything soaking wet.

Plenty of blue sky over towards the east so looks like the coast had a better day than here.

Max of 5c with light winds with a overnight low of -1c.

Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ in excess today, even got the house lights on which is really quite ridiculous - knew I shouldn't have taken today as a holiday!

Intermittent rain now accompanied by light winds and a temperature of 3.5c; if the rain is heavy for any length of time this evening then flooding is going to be an issue.

Was drier first thing, overnight low of -1.3c allowing some interesting frost patterns to form on the car windows...

Been out running errands this morning and, although it's a bit on the chilly side, the sun is out and everything seemed crisp and bright. A really nice morning to be out and about.

Temperature 4.2deg.C up from a minimum of -2.2deg.C at midnight, humidity is 89%, wind 0 to 4mph westerly, pressure 1002.2hPa falling, 0.2mm of rain recorded today and the dew point is 3deg.C.

Ended up not too unpleasant here with a brief hour of seeing blue sky and a beautiful sunset. But up to mid afternoon was misty and grey:

Fair this morning here with a min of 0.4C. Had to go to Aberdeen this afternoon where it was dull and damp. Driving back there was a glorious sunset where the clouds broke off to the South and West coming down into Angus and towards Dundee. Unfortunately driving so didn't get a chance to photograph it. Here it has got milder this evening with patchy rain. Temp now 4.5C which is the high spot of the day.

Kilties - is there anywhere I can find out how many hours of sunshine my postcode gets? Or how many wet days on average etc? I'm sure I once found a site that gave info like that.
