    A full autumn day. Cold the light rain and drizzle turning to light to moderate rain in the afternoon. heavy enough for me to soap the car down and let the rain wash it off.

    Another cool and very wet day here. Overcast with rain most of the day, occasionally heavy, and a dry spell mid afternoon. The October average rainfall  in Reading is around 70mm and we're close to that already after three days - and it's still raining hard this evening. Maximum 14.8, minimum 12.1. Wind light W.

      The heatwave is over, with the breakdown getting underway in southern England first this weekend. Further north and west there'll still be plenty of very warm sunshine on offer, before the weather becomes much less settled countrywide next week. Read the full update here
