Recommended Posts

Following on from the last champions league competition might as well do it again as the groups have just been drawn,¬†following the same rules as last time ūüėĀ ‚ÄúThe¬†rules will be as follows, for each match make a prediction for example Bayern¬†2-0 Atletico Madrid¬†for each correct result you will be awarded 1 point and for a correct score 2 points will be awarded, you will also be asked to predict your most likely result¬†which I will be calling your¬† MATCH¬†OF THE NIGHT and if you get the correct result on this you will get 2 points and a correct score will get you 3 points please make your MATCH OF THE NIGHT prediction by making it a font colour other than black for example ¬†Bayern¬†2-0 Atletico Madrid¬†or putting MATCH OF THE NIGHT next to the prediction. You will also be asked to predict¬†the outright winner of the competition and the winner of each group, each¬†of these if correctly predicted will get 3 points.‚ÄĚ

Hi Callum,

Just wanted to let you know, I havn't forgotten about your Competition.

I will be putting together Entries for myself, ANTONYBR7 and CASSIE/SE12 (Wife, Colette).

A little later, I will post up our ideas of Group Winners and overall Winners.

In the meantime, I will leave you with a little anecdote about the time I used to "host" Champions' League Competitions, at my place of work, Sunderland Credit Bookmakers in East Croydon, Surrey.

My Champions' League Competitions were by far the most popular of my Fantasy Sports Competitions.

I often had 20+ Entrants, each paying an entry fee of around £25. Sounds a lot of money but when you consider that the Tournament lasts from late September until late May (albeit with a 2 Month, mid-Winter break), IMO very good value for money.

For one Competition, I had around 35 Entrants. For that Competition, we paid an entry fee of £30 with total Prize Money of £1,050. Paul (BR7), my Daughter's partner won the 1st Prize of £700.

Paul used the Prize Money, to help have his Patio relayed and bought himself and his Wife at the time, a new Washing Machine.

In early December 2003, myself, Son Antony and Daughter Hayley, had a Week's holiday in Milan.

We all chose a themed Day out. I chose a train journey to the Valle D'Aosta, and the French border, amongst the Alps, in the hope of seeing some snow.

Hayley decided on a trip to Verona, to visit Romeo and Juliet's Courtyard and Balcony, plus a trip around Verona's, amazing Amphitheatre.

Antony wanted to watch a Champions' League match, at A.C.Milan's incredible San Siro Stadium.

I booked the Holiday in late September, just as that Season's Champions' League, was about to start.

We'd singled out A.C. Milan's Group match against Celta Vigo.

The trouble was that Milan had won the Group before that final Group H game.

They had also qualified for the World Champions Club Cup Championship, which was to be held in Tokyo, at the same time as our Holiday. This meant that the great majority of A.C Milan's 1st Team, were over in Japan at the time of our Holiday.

All that was left of the 1st Team back in Milan, were Clarence Seedorf and Kaka.

A couple of Days before the match, we took a trip out the western part of Milan to the team's Club Shop, to buy tickets for the match, because most of the 1st Team were in Japan, the match tickets were very cheap, just 25 Euros.

While we were at the Shop, Antony bought an A.C. Milan Tracksuit, and we got talking to the Club Shop Manager, who amazingly was a Juventus fan!!¬†ūüėģ

That reminded me of my Racing Manager at Sunderland's Son. He was the Manager of the Chelsea Club Shop but was a Manchester Utd fan. He went to the 2008 Final, in Moscow. He travelled out with the Chelsea fans and watched the match in their section, and had to keep his happiness to himself, as Utd beat Chelsea 6-5 on Penalties.

I will leave you with a Youtube clip of the highlights of that A.C. Milan v. Celta Vigo Group match, myself, Son and Daughter saw back in early December 2003.

Milan eventually lost 2-1 but it didn't matter, as they'd already qualified for the Knockout Phase of the Tournament.

Kaka had a superb 1st half and scored a great goal, after 40 minutes. The three of us were sat in the top tier of the Stadium, on the left of the end Kaka scored at.

See Youtube clip of the highlights, from that match:

The Celta fans, who occupied one corner of the ground, were ecstatic to see their Team come from behind and win the match, 2-1. This meant that Celta Vigo qualified for the Knockout Phase, in 2nd place in the Group.

A few of the abiding memories from that Night, were the fact that capacity of the San Siro is 75, 950 but even though the crowd was still 36,200, the Stadium looked empty. Also, the incredible noise those Firecrackers make when let off by the Milan fans. In no way would it be allowed in this Country. Will never forget the delicious meat baguettes sold on the many stalls, outside the ground before the match.

They went down a treat and were very welcome and warming that Night, as the temperature dropped to -5c in Milan.

The San Siro really is an incredible sight from the outside, when all lit up and gives the appearance of a Spaceship suspended in mid-air:

Later on Today, I will post up those predictions for Group Winners and overall Winners, for myself, Antony and Colette.

Tomorrow Morning, I will post up our Correct Scores/Results and Matches of the Night, for Matchday 1.

Just a quick P.S. to my Post this Morning, regarding watching a C/League Group match, between A.C.Milan/Celta Vigo.

The following Day, we quite fancied making the hour and a half Train journey to Turin, to watch Juventus in their final Group match against Greek side, Olympiacos.

But surprisingly, the last Train back to Milan was at 9 PM. This meant we'd only been able to watch most of the 1st Half, before making our way back to Turin's, central Station. So, we decided to watch the game on Italian TV, in our Hotel room. Below, is the Result of that game. We were all gutted!!

Juventus¬†7‚Äď0¬†Olympiacos

Trezeguet  14', 25'
Miccoli  19'
Maresca  28'
Di Vaio  62'
Del Piero  67'
Zalayeta  79'R

But the following Day, our disappointment soon evaporated. It was my turn to have my themed Day. We travelled West by Train from Milan, via Turin, to a Village called Pre St Didier.

Although it has a French name, it lies about 15 Miles inside the Italian border. The Alpine scenery was breathtaking.

Pre St Didier, is overlooked by a Mountain, which is home to the Ski Resort of La Thuile. Although we there was no snow falling, the surrounding Mountains glistened with the white stuff, and thick frost lasted all Day long, underfoot.

The view to the N.W. was stunning, that of the Mont Blanc massif.

I had to wait a few Days more for my snow fix, on our Train journey back to London. When our Milan-Paris Express stopped at the Alpine Border point of Bardonecchia, it was snowing heavily. My Daughter, took the opportunity of the half hour stop, to get of the Train to have a "ciggy". That was her excuse anyway. Hayley is a Snow freak, just like her Father.

Tomorrow Morning, I will post up the Correct Score/Result and Match of the Night predictions for Matchday 1, for ANTONYBR7, CASSIESE12 and TOMSE12.

Morning all,

Hopefully, Callum (Kirkcaldy Weather) won't mind but as there's no dedicated Champions League Thread, thought I'd post these in here.

Below, are some Youtube clips of some of the action from the first Night of Matchday 1.

First, Man.Utd's superb win, at Paris Saint-Germain. You might want to wear some tinted glasses, as United are wearing a very snazzy Away kit:

Superbly taken winning goal by Marcus Rashford. A piece of "Good Karma", for his campaigning on free School meals.

Now, some of the best action from Chelsea's hard fought 0-0 Draw, with Sevilla at Stamford Bridge:

Now, Barcelona's 5-1 thumping of Hungarians, Ferencvaros:

Don't discard your tinted glasses just yet. Now the 2-0 away win of Juventus at Dinamo Kiev, in bright Orange Away strip:

Finally, the impressive 3-1 win of Lazio over Borussia Dortmund:

Hopefully, Callum (Kirkcaldy Weather) won't mind but as there's no dedicated Champions League Thread, thought I'd post these in here.

Below, are some Youtube clips of some of the action from the first Night of Matchday 1.
