I dont have a station but in Southampton it is flooded pretty much everywhere around hedge end/Eastleigh area. I would estimate 40mm last 90 mins or so?

The wind was a feature here earlier,  but otherwise it's just a cool, drizzly day. The Thames providing a storm shield as is often the case when the weather is coming from the East

Was expecting a very windy and rainy day but there has only been light winds, still quite a bit of rain though so i'm quite disappointed here

It doesnt bode well for late and tommorow in the fact that Alex is wobbling westward in the last 2 hours....not by much.

Rain really pepped up in the last hour or so,  seemingly from nowhere. After having little rain for so long,it's a welcome sound, though am sure I won't be saying that in 36 hours time.

No rain since lunchtime here and the winds dropped completely now. A few showers appearing in the channel so that might change soon.

Interesting you say that because the model charts a few days ago were talking up to 190mm across the IOW by Friday next week, most from Alex of course, and yet as Matt mentions it has been dry all afternoon whilst other areas it's been raining for most of the day. Looking at the earlier models that were predicting high winds over northern France, I think they were off, and the fact Alex has taken a dive almost into Biscay was on the cards (sort of) with it heading south. It almost looked as though as a storm it seemed off course and forced almost backwards as it stopped dead in the channel then back tracked in a southerly direction. I saw so many people saying we'd have a short break and it would rain continual down here, in actual fact it hasn't and we had blue sky this afternoon and sunshine for a while...

It has pretty much rained all day here just north of London too, with it picking up in the last few hours just as it looked to be easing off. I expected a bit of a dry slot this afternoon!

Quite a significant change in the MetOffice forecasts from this morning. The UKV has done away with the highest totals down here, and moved them to Wales and the Northwest.

Can we Join the SW group, I can pronounce all of those names compared to atleast 7 on the 'UK' grouping that are unpronounceable without spraining your tongue/vocal chords.

_____________

In regards to the Storm, nothing much has been happening up here.  Dry and dull all day.  Sun was weakly visible through the cloud as if it was shining through a high snowcloud/fog but zero warmth to it.  Not much in the way of wind either, a mild breeze earlier in the day but really calm outside now.

Not much in the way of wind here from Storm Alex, just a standard autumn Channel breeze. However, we have had a lot of rain - since the start of the month (and bearing in mind that month is only 48 and a bit hours old) I’ve recorded 71.89mm and it’s still coming down!

Rain is still falling, in the form of drizzle for now. The main stuff looks to have moved away finally though.

Was the storm a smashing success or an epic failure for Britain?  How did it go? Was it at least more successful then our politics of selling ourselves up a creek to China?
