A quick glance at the GEFS for here shows that apart from tomorrow, the next 5 - 7 days look dry, cloudy and chilly - rather benign conditions.

Yay, it's snowing here. Ok it's very fine dandruff snow, but a good start to the New Year!

Low of -5.3C here, a slight uptick before dawn due to some cloud. The lowest temp since 3rd February 2019 (-6.2C).

A thick hard frost and partly cloudy with a nice sunrise, becoming cloudier through the morning, a pretty wintry grey and frosty scene.

We had the thing where frost starts melting on some surfaces (cars, roofs) even at -1C, and on the lawn before 0C..
It seems when it's cloudy that reflected longwave (or redirected shortwave energy that does get through from the sun) warms surfaces to slightly above the air temperature? The opposite is true when it's clear and shaded areas stay frosty all day even if the air temp gets a few degrees above freezing, as they are still radiating energy to the clear sky.

Just risen above freezing, 0.1C. Still mostly frosty on the trees and vegetation sticking up into the (until recently) sub-zero air, partly frosty on some fields but melting.

Kind of looks odd having the grass all green and dewy but trees/cow parsley etc still white (although that's starting to melt too now).

Drizzle here @ 1.6°C, a classic winter these days, full of promise and ending up as a wet cigar!

One blessing is my compost will have thawed out so back to the garden tomorrow..

Although no snow, my husband went out for a very early frosty walk this morning and took some lovely pictures in our local nature reserve.

Murky, damp and drizzle in Stroud for some time now - bit of a shame after this morning (as @chris55 mentioned earlier). If it stayed cold we would be well covered. Oh well, have seen a reasonable amount of the white stuff this week here, more than last winter (from the ground as well as the sky!).
Happy New Year to everyone, let’s hope we all get a major dump in the next week or so (not the Christmas over eating kind....), especially as we’re pretty much in full lockdown anyway! Take care everyone.

More inbound showers showing up on the radar now, with a daytime high of 1.9°C at: 18:27, and rising, they are certainly to be of rain. Just goes to show how weak this cold air really is, a NE airflow in January with an air temp of 1.9C and we have rain..Ah well not to worry Spring is only 78days away

Popped over to the mad thread and wished I hadnt. Some said it's going to get cold then not as cold then maybe even colder but not as cold lol. Think I will stay in the regional. Let's see what this potential ssw does to our region hopefully in a few weeks time or so.

Outside chance of some more snow on dartmoor tomorrow. Looks like a potential streamer coming off Wales. Shouldn't think it would amount to much if any. Then a dry week. Weather turns easterly we'll get no ppn on this side of the moor on that set up. All eyes on what comes down from the North West next weekend Could be a cold rain event or heavy snow.

Sixth ‘attempt’ of the week was finally a direct hit:E26E0A34-2C3F-4584-84D8-1C22936E47EA.thumb.png.d2637d0c4f56ff5a15d33cd8a2119552.png

Rain. Has been falling intermittently for the last six hours since then. Crap again.

Yeah a lot of excitement over a day 10 ECM chart, particularly from those up North. Mapantz soon sorted it out with a reminder of what happened in February 2018. Excellent post.

I’ll eat my hat if that chart verifies. People have short memories from what happened earlier this week when it comes to the forecasting of channel lows!
