Heavy sleet here about 15 miles south of Salisbury. Flakes are very wet, mind. I wish I was up in the higher parts of the New Forest again!

Ha. That's my room mate from the 2018 US chase.

Small world. Don't think he's on here.

Temp has shot down to 2c now.  Dew point down to +1.2c.

Does feel icy cold outside.

Yep. Suspect that's our lot until the back edge moves through.

Putting my positive hat back on for a minute, this is what the 06z NMM shows for tomorrow evening;

nmm_uk1-1-35-0.thumb.png.403d6d6b5a6abd8fc72700ea6f76eb2d.png

How did this model do for the snowfall that fell in the West Midlands, Worcestershire, Cotswolds etc approx 24hrs prior;

Just to keep the wet snow enthusiasts interested still anyway.

Not long just had our 5-10 minute flurry. Started off really light, then it beefed-up the flakes for a few minutes, then died away.

I want more now... gimme more!

The 10-15 mins of moderate / heavy wet snow was nice to see, but now I'm craving the proper stuff even more.

I'm going to chase that dangling carrot again.... on to tomorrow evening.

That latter forecast from yesterday for this morning pretty much matches this mornings reading.

EGVA 290742Z AUTO 00000KT 9999 SCT015 BKN055 00/00 A2913 RMK AO2 SNE0656UPB0656E09UPB11E13SNB13E41 SLP872 $

Snow started 6:29am (time from the second-previous reading) and ended 6:56am. Then started back up at 7:11am until 7:41am.

n.b. Actual location is a few miles further east than plotted on the radar.

The pattern continues:

Wind in from the north but the temperature keeps rising currently 5.3°C ...so much for "Polar Air" as oft cited in many feeds of the media..

Meanwhile "il pleut" here...

Also mirrored by 12z ICON & 12z Arome.

Time to give up on it now.  Be nice if we could instead have a decent frost or two in the next few days and some crisp, winters sunshine.

Snowing here, has been on and off for the last couple of hours. Not heavy enough to amount to anything.

I was referring to tomorrows possibility which has now all but vanished.  I haven't looked at Thursday yet.

To be fair to the Met Office, they have a yellow warning out to highlight the uncertainty prior to the 12z data became available.  When looking into the details of the warning below;

Screenshot_2020-12-29-16-01-53-71.thumb.jpg.59cc185605d443459e40b28a38a5f308.jpg

they repeatedly say "small chance" & uncertainty.  You never know, these things are hard to predict, the latest data suggests and favours a more southerly track however, keeping the majority of the region dry.

After the rain and temp dropped to 2.9c, it has started to rise, now 3.5c.

Wicked cold spell.... not
