Very nice for the first day of Winter. Sunny and bright, very seasonal. Hoping that we can all get some cold and snow at some point this winter!

Interesting cloud formations around the sun at half one this afternoon.

Have a look out the now Lyn-m. It looks like a static murmuration.

You can make out Saturn and Jupiter too.

I saw something similar here too, but was too dark to get a worthwhile photo.

The oracle that is the Apple Weather App has been showing a snow symbol for Warminster on Friday since yesterday morning. The only change is a shift DOWN in maximum temperature prediction from 5c to 3c!

Hopefully winter will bare fruit this year/next.   Certainly looks a promising start compared with the last few!

we all need cheering up after the COVID nightmare.

Hopefully copious  amounts of snow, sub zero temperatures, and a few hoare frosts.

Sunny all day today, which was nice, quickly cooled down once the sun disappeared though. Reached 8.7°C, currently 3.4°C which is what it went down to last night.

Joining this regional thread having moved to lovely Gloucestershire last year. What a delight the SW is.

Nice chilly start to winter. Three frosts in last week, and heck of a fog Sunday night. I had to drive from Wotton to Stroud over the top of the hills - visibility down to 10m at some points. Definitely one of the trickiest drives I've ever had to undertake. Bloody good fun though.

Not overly familiar with SW winters or the set-ups which favour us in these parts. I got a sense from afar that Bristol and the Mendips hills to the south, and Gloc Cotswolds hills to the NE, always seem to do quite well? I hope so because the latter is where we are now!

I will miss the Thames Streamers!

Neighbours have already warned me that every few years the snow cuts off our town. I hope they're not exaggerating. We are surrounded by steep hills on all sides, so let's see what the future brings.....

Welcome to the West Country ! I live just on the edge of the cotswolds and have been up there in the snow, during the BFTE in 2018, cars were completely stranded up on the hilltops along the A46 so it has happened recently. We also can be the luckiest when it comes to the channel lows etc, in February 2019 we got a proper snow event when the rest of the country got almost nothing! ❄️

BFTE 2018 snow near Solsbury Hill in Bath (not my picture though):

Welcome!!

You can remove Bristol from that, as Bristol seems to have its own weather shield lol but the places you mention do a lot better. I live in North Somerset, in the commuter area to Bristol, and when it comes to frost, fog, snow etc the difference between the two can be stark!

A recent example of how your area is better than say south of the M4 is the first December 2017 snowfall. There was a light covering here but that cay I drove to Wotton and on to the golf course and Newark Park, on the edge of the Cotswold promontory and the snow was deep.
