Round up of the 12z Models

Monday Showing as 0%

Tuesday Showing as 46%

Wednesday Showing as 15%

Gathering strength that Tuesday could be our best shot at something wintry to low levels and more of the population and this is the highest risk we have had - Need to get it upto around 70% though

Some comparison made on the MAD thread at the moment with Feb 86 cold spell... I don’t recall much of that winter, with the exception of the exceptionally cold temperatures in Florida that January that contributed to the Space Shuttle Challenger exploding just after lift off on the 28th January...I was living in Haywards Heath at the time and vaguely a few very snowy days that possibly closed  the schools.. can anyone else add any details?

Hi John, I remember the winter of '86 well, it was dominated by a 'Dirty High' throughout - i.e. mainly dry but cloudy through Jan and Feb. Many ice days, occasional light granular snow. It is rarely talked about on here, especially compared to '81, '84 and '87 because it did not produce memorable heavy snow events, however it did involve severe prolonged cold and could be argued that it kicked off a political debate about cold weather payments which eventually led to the Winter Fuel Allowance.

Watching the west brom v arsenal game, heavy snow, and here, in northiam, I have sleet, I can't stand sleet, it's like the weather is trying to mock me, it's like the weather gods are saying, its almost perfect, but not quite, and I can't be bothered to go lower or higher

Evening all, I don’t post much in this thread but I always enjoy reading everyone’s posts. We’ve hardly had a flake of snow so far here in Cambridge since this cold spell started, hopefully that’ll change next week once the easterly wind kicks in. It’s always hard to see other parts of the UK always doing so well with the snow whilst hardly any of us here in the East/South-East see anything yet again. So far the only snowfall we’ve had here was surprisingly back in early December but I forgot to post a photo back then. However, we have had some lovely winter sunsets and frosts here recently and that’s always great (I can’t remember whether I posted a photo previously). Hope everyone manages to see some snow next week, we deserve it to be our turn around here soon.

That wind redirection on the isobars to me looks close to a Thames streamer rather than a Kent clipper (just East  and Mid Kent) better for NW&W Kent possibly SE London

FWIW they also show smaller amounts of snow earlier this week but rain also for my location anyway

Had a brief snow shower just ahead of it for a few mins, the better half has just popped to the shops as it’s about to reach us so she might get a bit sleety lol

It seems to be fizzling out - if it is snow it will die before it gets to me. If not, it is rain.

Icon is very dry for Mon - Weds? Why aren’t these Models picking up any precip / streamers? Surely we have 13c difference between sea surface and uppers

They suck at picking out streamers etc..ive had numerous surprise snowfalls from the east when the high res models have failed to pick them up..

Take tonight for example that stuff over Kent the only model really right with it is Arpege and its got it right turning to snow.. Some people now reporting its falling as snow

I believe for a Thames streamer we would need a NE wind direction.
