Rain rattled through earlier than expected here in Surrey was pretty intense for a while - wonder if we will get the wind later currently looking not too much of a threat so far..?

According to the radar the heaviest of the rain has gone through my location and gave around 10mm in one hour between 07.00 and 08.00:

I've been checking Meteociel wind gust observations this morning and so far the strongest gust was down in Langdon Bay, Kent, with a 76kph (47mph) gust at 07.00:

18.6mm of rain since midnight (so far). We've just had another heavy shower, followed by sun, and a rainbow. Then almost immediately, lightning and thunder...

And followed by hail and gusty winds, think that beats anything from summer

I swear we had something like a down draught or mini tornado in Brighton in last hour. Thought my roof was coming off. Very scary.

To be honest the weather is perfect for down drafts today. I'm assuming the rain was torrential at the same time.

Yes......sideways. I was so sure roof or part of it was coming off. You may be experiencing same system now. Any guesses on possible gust speed?

Yeah by the sound,I think the lightning was in the channel, and was quite powerful. Was cloud over over me,so sound probably moved through that..

The strongest gusts being reported today were 92mph at The Needles and 69mph at Isle of Portland. I think Langdon Bay topped at 65mph.

Mild outside but not much difference in temperature than the last week or so here, 14c but with a strong southwesterly wind doesn’t feel all that mild with full cloud cover.

Lovely day here with plenty of sunny spells and a max temp of 15.2C. And to top it off, some lovely skies as the late afternoon sun lit up the clouds:

Later this week not looking so enjoyable outdoors as much colder air digs south on Thurs bringing gales to East Anglia, and a chilly day to come on Friday with temps held back to around 7C or 8C for many if Arpege is correct:
