Perfect Autumn morning, bit of mist, still quite mild, sunny, leaves turning.

Top temp here today was 24.5c with clear skies up until late afternoon, patchy cloud now moving in heralding the change to some what more autumnal weather, at least the rain will be welcome, it's been very dry here for a while.

It really was the last day of summer and didn't it end on a high note, very warm 25C and sunny it clouded over but by then it was getting darker so I’m not going to complain. The days ahead might come as a shock.

Woken early by heavy rain which cleared by 6.30, now cloudy but still warm and muggy feeling.

Yes same here certainly not feeling very chilly at the moment! I’m camping in Hertford at the weekend so I expect the cold to set in just in time for that!

Just had a short spell of very heavy rain. Haven't seen that for several months. Sounded lovely and the smell of petrichor is glorious.

Hope you’re all well? Losing taste and smell has been so weird! And annoying lol, as I love my food/drink. It’s been a total loss for 5 days, but today I can smell/taste ‘hints’ of things. So hopefully it’s getting better, I’ve heard that this symptom can last a month or more, though.

Yep he's lost smell completely, but taste wise, he gets hints, like I have to make coffee with no sugar, as it's now too sweet with it. The heat of chilli but only after it's swallowed, as a warm feeling, and tart stuff like the sour bit of brown sauce.

Further to my post last Saturday about rain bands breaking up within a few miles of reaching Eastbourne, thank you for replies from Folkestone & the Essex coast which also noted a member from the Dorset coast also reporting the same phenomenon!

But does anyone know exactly 'why' this should happen as when I warn friends & relations of rain coming soon I then look stupid when it vanishes... it often happens with either a frontal band or showers that have travelled perhaps 200 miles but then is scared stiff of Eastbourne then parts before reaching here  & then can reform once the rain band has passed!!

People often ask me 'why' this happens so many times yet I wish i knew!!!

 Any scientific iseas please??!!

Ive lived in Brighton all my and noticed the same thing. If ever they say heavy showers from the West...we will often miss them. I believe its something to do with the South Downs.....the showers tend to form above or behind them so often miss the coastal parts. Just my observations... ....just another note...I work in Ringmer near Lewes. We often have showers that form directly above us. While others in say Brighton remain completely dry.

After some early morning rain here we've managed to dodge this afternoon's showers, temps on the fresh side with a high of 12.9c, currently 11.4c.

Daughter picked up the first rumble, then I caught the second and we both heard the third, then she saw the lightning, I didn’t as I was stuck behind a sofa at the time
