Keeping an eye, perhaps too much wind around Fri night for any widespread frost. Saturday night looking best bet as a ridge develops and winds fall light under the polar air mass.

Looks like first widespread frost chances across Scotland and north of England on Friday night F63DCA7B-D112-4B03-BC94-906C3EDED008.thumb.png.535172bfe3f409ad2aa2f88c9542fabf.png

Could be back to back widespread ground frost at least Friday, Saturday night, with air frosts in more sheltered parts of the north. Much will depend on the strength of the wind. Temperatures look conducive for frost.

It was -2C here last night so that's the first of the season.

First air frost in a couple of spots across North Yorkshire this morning. Possible more over the next few nights.

Trying to keep this thread active, and surprised not much more comment or speculation, given likelihood many will see there first ground frost of the season at least by end of the weekend. I'm sensing the forum as a whole is exceptionally quiet at present.

Barely any remark on the temp low last night, quite special to see a temp if -5 degrees so early in the season in the warming climate.

Yes, Altnaharra was just 1.7C away from equalling the September record, yet it's very quiet. The forum would be buzzing if we were to see -25.5C in December.

I wonder what our chances are of dropping even lower? How about Sunday morning? Setup looks decent plus approximately 15 minutes more darkness than Wednesday night.

First visible ground frost for me here this morning quite close to the coast. Air temp got down to 2C. A fresh Northerly breeze has brought in some cloud now though and the temp is up to 10C.

Got down to 1.3C here this morning. So a ground frost but no air frost. Still had a slight breeze scuppering it.

Sunday night looks like the best bet to me. Seems to be more wind than expected, really need that to stay calm.

The usual suspects only seem to comment on when temps are unseasonably mild. They conveniently forget how cold it gets sometimes, despite a warming climate.

At the start of the week, tonight was forecast to be a cold one, alas the wind is going to prevent any frost, indeed in eastern parts a mild night in the offing. Sheltered parts of W Scotland look most primed for air frost tonight.

We managed a very slight patchy ground frost this morning.

Got down to 0.7c here last night. My coldest September night since I moved to this location in 2005

You don’t see a lot of these feats these days. Nice to see!

Northern Ireland has done relatively well in recent years; they set their coldest ever in December 2010.
