Dont really remember this although I was only 6 at the time.

It must have been a late December of considerable contrast as I recall attending a birthday celebration in Croydon on the 27th and the meal being abandoned part-way through after the restaurant roof started to leak badly in the heavy rain. In his book on Great British Weather Disasters, Philip Eden noted that 2000 sq km received 100mm or more of rain on the 26th and 27th, mainly in the south of England, and four people were tragically drowned in South Wales.
