Dawns approaching can start making out the water now on Brad Arnolds stream, looks very high, ground level looks completely inundated.

This guys showing the damage live now

EDIT: Just checked what the thing that's sticking up at the odd angle is on Google Earth Pro, and it's The First Baptist Church, the roof is built like that so it's higher at the front.

EDIT 2 : Jeff's back live again, driving around now

Seen a report yesterday of loads of those plants close to the shore. You'd wonder the thought process behind building those close to the shore in a hurricane prone area.

Water.  Lots and Lots of water that they don't have to pay to use

Same as Fukushima, if you have to make something with water or keep something cool then build it on the coast. X

No ones on the coast yet, it's still pitch black over there and they are still in the hurricanes circulation so it's not like anyone can go check.  Also, alot of the tide-gauges aren't sending data, either due to power outage or just being plain broken.  One of those that is still working that was in the direct path of the eye is showing 10 ft, and that's plenty enough to submerge a single story building, so still deadly.

For anyone in the know. One thing I'm wondering about is that some of the gauges show a sudden drop in water level as the hurricane came ashore, up to 2ft below the expected tide level for that time before rapidly coming in even higher (looks more like a small tsunami with how it behaved).  Is this normal??

Probably a negative storm surge - this explains about that

Nope, wasn't that.  According to the article it takes place over many MANY hours this was really fast. (Interesting though, all the same.  )

It appears that, despite the storm surge only being 50 to 66% of what was predicted, 10 feet of sea coming at you in high Cat4 winds...

... most of Cameron isn't there anymore. Not in any meaningful sense anyway. With seemingly few exceptions, if it's not washed off its foundations it's heavily damaged.
