The winds look ferocious in the animation, highlighted by the cloud movement

Water Vapour (WV) imagery is used to help identify conditions favourable for a sting jet (Visible Vis and InfraRed IR seen more often as satellite imagery)

A feature of rapid/explosive cyclogenesis is a dark slot, "the dry intrusion" where descending stratospheric air wraps into a low pressure and the pressure plummets. Just seeing this dark area doesn't mean there is a sting jet reaching the surface/Ireland though.

https://eumetview.eumetsat.int/mapviewer/  chose top option MEteosat 41.5 /IMagery  / WV 6.2

Blowing an absolute hoolie in Tenby right now. Dread to think what’s happening on the campsites in the area: would have thought there will be a lot of folks with trashed tents sleeping in their cars...

Feels like a proper winter storm.

An increase in winds here now. Whilst nowhere near that of what's in ROI, it does feel weird in August.

43.2mm of rain here today as well.

Very bizarre tropical storm feel again. But we're on the very edge of this. More worried about my dad and brother who will cop that developing sting jet full on

Plenty of trees down over night for southern Ireland and a few reported in the north too. Power outages too https://www.esb.ie/esb-networks/powercheck/

My father in south Tipperary just checked in after getting to work (north Cork). No power, internet or phone signal at home and trees down everywhere. Seems to be the case for much of southern Ireland.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
