Hi Peter, everything is lined up correctly, but radar isn't infallible and can show false echoes / miss rain etc. There is more info on all of this in the Met Office info sheet below:

To add to that there were quite a few occasions over the last week or so where rain was falling but wasn’t reaching the ground which would still appear on the radar.

I remember years ago when we had very fine snowfall on Christmas Day here in Solihull and the radar showed it as good as gold but the Met Office wouldn’t recognise that we had snowfall,  all because at the time we had a North Easterly and the Snowfall was man made from the power station cooling towers from Nottingham, but who cares we had a covering ( the radar worked perfectly that day )
