I actually think Kirsty mccoll:days was definately earlier that summer now I remember.

Hot summer of 1989.

I think that was in July.

Mike Oldfield’s Moonlight Shadow kind of reminds me of that song, for some reason. Another hot summer song.

I actually bought the song, although by that stage of the 90s, I was already losing interest in the charts. It all went downhill after 1995 and the arrival of the Spice Girls.

The Drugs don't work by the Verve - very melancholic coming at a rather mournful time in early September 1997.

Brilliant song.

Pretty sure the lyric 'like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown' is widely considered one of the most depressing of any song ever!

Few people seem to realise it's nothing to do with drugs or addiction either. It was written about his dad who died when he was young. He lay ill in hospital and Ashcroft noted the drugs the hospital were giving his dad were making him worse and not better.

Sad sad song.

Black Box and Ride on Time was huge hit in 1989 that was early autumn.

I'm struggling over recent years, don't listen to chart music anymore, can't name most number 1s in at least the last 10 years!

looked at now 92, not heard of any of the songs

Now 48-52 tha best!

Yeah, it entered the chart in late July, and knocked off ‘Are Friends Electric‘ by Tubeway Army, which is probably where the 1980s started in terms of British electronic music. I digress.

Boomtown Rats were number 1 during August, and still knocking about until late September.

I think most of us will refer to the 60s to early 2000s. The 2010s isn’t memorable for mainstream music, but I have songs I listen to that remind me of times of the year, especially when I discover them.

Most of the charts now is clogged up with dull boring Urban Hip hop/ RnB, collaborations between the same 5-10 artists, who all sound the same. No musicians, just all auto tune and studio manufactured. Lady Gaga kind of kicked it off in 2009, and it all went downhill from there.

Thats why I just either listen to music stations that play music from pre 2010 or anything from 60s to early mid 2000s, or listen to stuff on Mixcloud.

Sadly we’ve just lost him to a long illness, but thank you for reminding me of a fond memory
