Didn’t know we was expecting an avalanche today 🤔

Stonking day for storms. Had two cells with continuous thunder [but mostly no visible lightning again]. Here's some pictures of one storm that I tracked as it progressed up the M11 which produced some

Am enjoying a weekend away 60 miles S of Prague in the pretty town of Písek, the storm front that came in this evening was dramatic!

Was there any lightning from this?

Looks like a beauty! Very summer plume like

Few over Reculver, about 4 miles to my E, rest were over Manston/Ramsgate. All lightning had gone by the time I had got to the seafront though.

I'm not sure if these features that mainly occur over the sea by these storms are fuelled by the extra moisture from it forming them? I do tend to see a ton of mini shelf cloud features with a Whale's Mouth after on SB-based storms especially moving W - E.

Fantastic cloudscapes this afternoon as we saw large temperature falls as various heavy showers passed to the South.

Strong winds at 850hPa so it looks like it could get quite gusty when winds get mixed down to the surface in convection, with very strong low level and deep layer shear! The environment looks to be quite moist as well with dewpoints 11-13c and temps near that as well. Definitely looks like it could turn interesting! (but of course things can change)

The potential squall line on Saturday looks like it could be quite nasty...

It'll break up by the time it gets here. Probably only had in last few years. Either it dies way and then rebuild as it passes or the winds die away chucks down it then clears away or the winds briefly get up but there's hardly any rain.

There could be some interest today as well as tomorrows squall line,a few heavy showers have developed in the south.

Day 1 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Fri 23 Oct 2020 - 05:59 UTC Sat 24 Oct 2020

ISSUED 06:45 UTC Fri 23 Oct 2020

ISSUED BY: Dan

Showery bursts of rain across East Anglia and SE England on Friday morning has a very low risk of lightning (5-10% chance). Meanwhile, a weakening band of frontal rain will spread eastwards across Britain through the day, although there may be a temporary uptick in intensity late morning from Isle of Man to NW England, and perhaps again during the evening over the English Channel.

Behind this front, an upper trough will swing northeastwards across Northern Ireland and Scotland, with scattered showers likely in an environment with steep mid-level lapse rates and a few hundred J/kg CAPE. As such, a few isolated lightning strikes could occur here (10-15% chance). These will ease by evening as ridging develops ahead of the next Atlantic frontal system, which will push an active cold front eastwards across Ireland during the early hours of Saturday - given the strongly-sheared environment, some bowing segments are likely which may produce locally damaging gusts of wind. Squally showers will also follow into western Ireland at the end of the night.

Please, has anyone a rough ETA for Saturday's squall line for my area (Reigate / Gatwick)?  This site is playing up, and I can't access Thunder and Lightning's charts and some other features.

Just would like to know because we have a guy who comes and gardens for us, and I have a feeling he'll start right as the squall line hits...  💨 💦  😒

When you say playing up, what issue are you having? All should be working fine currently, so if there's a problem we'll look into it asap.

Argh - locked myself out of my account!  It's actually probably my Gurgle Chrome (Win 10). It won't access the site - going at a total crawl. I didn't even know if my message got posted.

It's probably the Chrome cache. MS Edge works fine here. Please don't worry about it. Thanks!

Update: yep - Chrome cache. All good now.
