Just seen a distant lightning flash and it was quite bright considering how far away the storm is.

Ashford, Kent

This is very surprising as there is pretty much nothing to cause this

nothing on sat or anywhere supports this, sorry.  probably fireworks - considering how long the flashes went on for

I saw it with my own eyes, my friend did, it came out of nowhere for about 5 minutes, it was quite small and it was at 6pm, there was rain around. No one in Ashford has done fireworks on days like this as far as I can remember, Sorry if It seemed like I was ranting.

I've had it before, especcialy with dry lightning it holds for a long time. Look at my above post for more talking about why it was lightning.

I caused a discussion

Zak M lent me his supervision saying it had been no good for him for 24 hours for the first time ever.

Sigh it was a small storm, I'm getting tired of saying this, there were a few flashes every 10 minutes why so rude the camera caught it and also I didn't mean to make it 4 posts, i'm in a bad mood today, sorry. And it wasn't allowing me to edit them for some reason.Am I turning into the pit?

We will have to agree to disagree on this. I really highly doubt a shelf cloud would appear from nowhere in mid November and spit out dry lightning on a night where the satellite shows little cloud (other than high level haze), no rain and a total of no sferics

Doesnt matter how many of your friends say they saw it - I’m not convinced!

Also, please explain a CAPE spike... never heard of this term - but it might just be my lack of understanding

Also in the video the flashes are in time with the rumbling from the motion of the vehicle. I’m going to make the call that it’s a visual effect on the lens caused by vibration.

Just putting it out there ...

You never Know I'm guessing you know What CAPE is all it was could have been a spike in one area also What time did you look at the radar because it dissapeared quickly

Saw it with my own eyes but then again How can I trust them when my Brain Wanted Lightning.

Looking at the lightning maps and radar archives for 17th Nov, there is zero evidence of storms in the Kent area, and the radar barely shows a drop of rain having fallen. Distant fireworks seems likely to me as others have mentioned.

Absolutely nothing in the area at the time. I've seen similar effects with flashes before on buses and such. The video clearly shows that it's from the bus and not the clouds due to the vibrations matching up and the flashes not lighting up the clouds at all really.

I caused a massive discussion lol anyway it probably was just the bus but who knows perhaps did have Zak M's supervision.

Looks like a few lightning strikes have been detected over Scotland and the Shetland Islands this morning, including a 743kA positive strike. That amount of power is hard to fathom.

I've probably missed something, but what on earth does 'Zak M's supervision' mean?
