Just a quick post of what has happened here in the last hour.

I just finished my dinner when a CB popped up out of nowhere and I thought it was going to produce lightning from the go but unfortunately, it didn’t.

About 20 minutes later a new CB started to pop up behind the clouds and this one developed really rapidly (new cell is the one circled).

And then it produced 3 flashes of lightning not long after I took all of those photos - you can just make out the flash in the top of the cloud.

Also saw this little feature while I was watching the lightning

I was thinking about calling that Yorkshire storm a supercell but I was worried that I was going to get shut down in here if it actually wasn't :oldrofl:

Definitely had the characteristics of a supercell. Notable rotation aloft, good inflow feeding into it. A nice split with a robust right mover. Didn't get much hail where I was I was nearly stuck and bailed to get some distance but I'd say it meet much of the criteria. Just got in with 1590 shots to go through. Will try get a teaser up in the short term though

Yup got a great view of it here in West Hull. Also got a sharp hail shower earlier this afternoon. Interesting day to say the least.

East yorkshire the place to be tonight, looking south/east from on top of the wolds has been quite a view, not bad for late September!

Extremely powerful strike just occurred in the English Channel about 10 minutes ago. Meteologix detected the strike as 174kA. Never seen it that high before.

@matt111's lightning detector picked this up, and it only detects strikes less than 25 miles away... this strike was double that distance.

Yes I was surprised to see how far away it was when it appeared on lightningmaps a few seconds later.

I have picked up lightning strikes over 80 miles away on my detector, and that has a 25 mile limit to it as well. The reason for detecting strikes further away (with cheaper detectors) is that bodies of water can sometimes act as a repeater, which increases the distance of detection.

I certainly didn't expect to see images of hail on roads like its snow on my timeline yesterday but I was pleasantly surprised.

Never seen hail lay here properly at all so you guys are lucky buggers!

Reminds me of a similar September hail storm in Cornwall in 2013:

It wouldn’t have been anyway as there was no lightning but it would’ve been nice to get a direct hit from a decent shower for a change.

The Lake District has some tops which are white, I presume this is from hail yesterday evening.!!

May be, but with how cold it is, could well be snow. I want to go look now lol.

Wow!, where did this come from, absolutely pouring down outside and winds going mental, even started off with hail in it for a min or so, could see them pinging off of the car roof.

I was watching the BBC weather for the week ahead on Countryfile last night, and it seems that we are in for some very stormy weather next weekend. OK, that may change and locations of concern are not mentioned at this stage, but generally it does seem we are going to be 'attacked' by a particularly deep and vigorous low moving up from the south / south west next Saturday.
