Despite the fact the thunder stopped before it arrived that was the heaviest rain I’ve seen for a long time. And now the kitchens flooded :help:

Yep, just drove back home from Ferndown, and I can honestly say that was the heaviest rain I have ever experienced in my whole life!

People also driving like complete morons, so I suspect there will be plenty of accidents on the roads.

Good luck with the kitchen

There goes the back edge of the rain as the sun comes out for the first time.

Bright  bright lightning here. Don't often see it light up the sky so well in daytime hours.  Thunder too, of course .

Of all the days we've had this summer, I'd have not put money on a storm today!

I could see the potential this morning, sky was very co;vective. Best its look all summer.

I have had to do some maintenance in the garden. That amount of rainfall washed out flower beds/rockery and my Koi pond is black! Incredible amount of water in such a short space of time.

I picked up 70 lightning strikes, but I didn't see or hear any thunder.

18 mm in 10 minutes. 411.4 mm/hr

The rain kept being blown in a number of different directions here during that few minutes when it was torrential.

This is nuts. I've not seen an afternoon of constant torrential rain like this in the UK for many a year. Patio flooded, gutters on the roof overflowing from the middle sections.

I just ran out to get the car out of the garage...this is basically a free car wash.

Damage reported right where the break in the line convection along the line I've drawn.

Interesting, here are my last two shots before the rain arrived, the camera is pointing in the direction of the line you've drawn. I was on the Sandbanks Peninsula at the time. I saw a small circulation in clouds directly above me but it didn't come to anything.

A developing low?

 A developing low,maybe?

I don't think so, looks more like a mesocyclone/rotating updraft, but this is 2020. It could be anything!

This is the most recent chart:

Edit: Judging by the post below, it looks like it might be another low!

Wind the clock back to 4pm and you'll see a small low in the channel not far from there. Going by fax charts, it's a secondary low from the parent one over Ireland

There is a surface low in the vicinity of Southampton at the moment (~1001mb), tracking northeast behind the main convection and is expected to slowly deepen as it moves towards East Anglia this evening and tonight - primarily driven by divergence aloft.

Nope, we've not had a storm in Horsham yet this year.

Are you sure you didn’t get a couple back in April I remember looking at the lightning maps seeing strikes over Horsham?
