Storms and Convective discussion- 7th August onwards

Recommended Posts

Well, the boy-racer in me has enjoyed tonight's blast into the Peaks, the storm-chaser has not!

Still plenty to play for over the coming days though!

A beautiful altocumulus castellanus sunrise this morning.

Oo she's a beauty

My first attempt at storm shots 🤷‍♂️ (Please don't judge 🤣) The cells are impressive tonight!

The plot thickens... Thunderstorm symbol at 23:00 from the MO, and a better looking future precipitation sequence for tonight... Fingers are crossed hard enough to break them! Haha

aint that the truth still remember that big one last year or was it the year before kinda hazy for me

it wasn't last year but yeah I know what you mean it seems a real distant memory I remember as a kid quite a few times in the summer running into my mum and dads room because of how loud the thunder was

I wish I had a decent camera right now, this light show is unbelievable.

Most of this must be elevated given not many strikes are being picked up on lightning maps. Reckon its still got potential later

I'd imagine that storm just off the French coast should be visible from the Sussex coast soon if it's not already.

Also confirming the storm in Mid Wales is elevated. Sat in back garden in shrewsbury and sky is lighting up every 20-30 seconds along a wide stretch. Nice little light show for us even though it’s 40 miles away!

It’s really really uncomfortably warm here - and I’ve just spotted an AcCas field drifting in overhead!! It’s a bit dark to show up on my phone camera, but unmistakably AcCas 👍

What are your thoughts on the french cell? 🙂

It looks good enough from here and I'm 40+ miles away

Been watching that clinging to the French coast for hours. Think it's finally broken its moorings and gradually pulling out into the Channel. Might be worth a journey to the beach even it's for a distant light show.

Not sure if it's been posted already as it's so busy in here but for those of us in the south this may be of interest

Pretty sure that will be correct as it looks like it misses me just to the east... which, coupled with all the storms to my west this morning, will mean I'm about the only place on the South coast to see nothing! 😂😂

Think I'll have to think of a name for this storm free area.

According to Metcheck, this is going at 27 mph so would reach land in the next 3/4 hours.

I'd genuinely be amazed if it did & gave a mini storm to Eastbourne.

Best luck seems to be for us in the SE on Wednesday/Thursday.

Not keen - looks nice on radar but the lightning activity seems to have waned quite a bit. Doesn’t mean other discreet cells could erupt - the AcCas overhead is encouraging but I won’t be staying up to wait (that’s making a big assumption that I’ll get off at all in this bloody furnace - not so much as a gnat’s fart of a breeze!)

Edit - I’m relying on blitzortung but other members seem to be using sites that’s suggesting the cell has still got some life...interesting.
