Just had a general look at the radar, that’s a very intense cell to the NW of Exeter...

Holy c**p lightning just struck no more than a few hundred meters from my office, whilst I was looking out of the open window. My ears are now ringing. This is the Zeus' revenge for me complaining all summer about the lack of storms in Kent

Update, the lighting hit the gate to our site 20 meters from where I was standing. That was a close one.

Gate now won't open, hoping I'm not stuck here tonight lol

Looks like the whole Surrey system is drifting west along with the unstable weather. Unless something comes out of France, I fear this will be it after it has gone.

The MO had the low centre further south, and another developing in Kent but I think that's not turned out.

Storm warning should really be removed for majority of the Mids today now.

The wife has offered to take me to oxford in about around 5ish eta around 2 hours would this be a good bet and are there any good vantage points ?

I might be tempted to  head for White horse hill between Oxford and Swindon .We don't have a lot of hills round here. The Chilterns are usually a good bet   but may not be in the firing line tonight. Boars hill in Oxford may be closer to see over the city

Winchester storm dying out on radar. All eyes on the Dorking cell which will head just north of here on its current trajectory.

It’s come over very dark to the NE again. Not quite as close as the last one went but there is something building south of it.

Almost constant thunder coming from the south of here, in SE London (near Greenwich). I fear that it might be drifting too far west though.

The smart money seems to be on Oxford  though doesn't look massively promising just yet.

Can’t afford the train travel through London, and any other route would take too long. booger it. I gotta learn to drive or make friends with a fellow stormie with a car willing to share petrol costs

Sob! It was literally as it started raining and it hit Winch it just died. Got a decent amount of rain for watering the garden though. Other to that a bit pants! Before it hit it was constant rumbling and sounded epic. Ah well. I've had something better than nowt.

phew, something is happening, it's gone from bright sunshine to nearly dark as night, and the wind has really picked up. I'm seeing fast moving clouds from east to west. Nothing over head yet, in terms of thunder

Sky still black to the south, although not one drop of rain here. I’m literally a couple of miles of it all

Would love to have seen some lightning but I will not complain about getting continuous thunder for the last 30-40 mins

Plenty of thunder coming south of Greenwich direction.  Heavy rain as well according to the radar. The Maidstone cells seems to have died out though.
