Been going since 9 clock in Stoke still going strong now.

I suppose that's relative. Still going with a flash and rumble every minute or 2, but not compared to earlier or especially last night!

possibly, my mate is anchored off porthcawl at the moment as he missed the tidal gate on his yacht due to the draught on her, so has to wait out all night so hopefully he will get photos

Flip the octopus pic so the head is on the left where the big blob is and it'd fit better

Even better change it for a pic of Cthulhu

Last night was the worst storm I have seen in all my life, scared me to death.

An OCS (Octopus Convective System) rather than an MCS?  The resemblance is uncanny. It's those arms you want to stay away from, judging by the activity in them.

Ahh, haven’t looked at anything like that since i hit the beach. Now home charging up and catching up. So what’s the heads up on this? Are we expecting it to channel hop?

I really really hope so! A very attractive system in terms of lightning frequency indeed. Just hope it doesn’t pull a classic MCS move of going against the steering flow, and then veering to the NE

I’d actually prefer if that MCS buggers off now so we can be cloud free to start the day tomorrow, that’s if it doesn’t re-ignite inland

I'm going to be honest, but I am scared of them too. But having joined and watching everyone talking about them has made me feel better

I am phobic to loud noise; always have been. Which is why I watch storms so I know when the noise is going to happen. And I love the lightning show because of it!

Same with fireworks.

Good on you! I used to be terrified of storms as well - I pretty much hid away from the best overnight storms the 90s had to offer. Over the years my fear/fascination ratio has tipped in the balance of fascination, to the point when I'm actively seeking them out. I hope it gradually does for you as well.

Will these inland storms die off soon? Mid level keeping them going?

Certainly not showing signs of dieing yet. More like reinvigorating inland.

Fellow Pilot of mine had this going off wild today on the aircraft we fly.  Looks fun. At least I know it works for when I fly...

(Edit: Some back build of that beast/storm does seem evident on its Eastern flank on radar with new blobby bits that keep forming)
