That was pretty amazing, I thought i'd have a late wander on the field just to see if I could spot any lightning and the cells from N.Wales up to Lancs were lit up like a christmas tree even from here. Hopefully i've managed to capture a few sferics even from this far away with the Nikon.

As much as I like seeing the reports of some spectacular thunderstorms elsewhere across the country please spare a thought for those of us here in the storm starved South East who have been sweltering for days in this heat and apart from the occasional distant flicker of lightning out in The Channel, have nothing to show for it.

And unlikely to get anything either

Reverse psychology - sadly it hasn't worked for the last few years but there's always a first time!

Got a lovely view of the lightning flashing inbetween the clouds as it moves away.

Don't worry, I'm just playing a quick tune on the world's tiniest violin to keep things on an even keel.

Edit: Heard from my brother again up in Flint, said he's getting torrential rain, lightning all around, the odd loud crack of thunder, but most of it is rumbles high up in the clouds.

I often forget just how immense that event was for these parts... Just look at those lightning rates!! I remember it going up to about 550 per min at one point! Hope I’ve already done a writing piece in my journal for it

Oh yes it was quite some storm!

Lovely isn’t it. I’m back in the garden now. Can’t believe how constant the lightning still is. 2 1/2 hours of constant lightning now.

Took this earlier today - 5:15pm time looking North-West from Eastern Solihull towards Birmingham. Must have been smoke from the Tyseley fire. Convinced at one point it was a tornado

Have to say also that storm over North-Western UK is an absolute monster. Nothing wants to stand in it’s way. A real thundery treat some of you are getting!

Frustrating that a lot of forecasters went quiet today over at UKWW. Still don’t really know why? Chance that we might have got a heads up on all that activity after dusk

Yeah that’s what I don’t get - those two places are pretty close together. My mum lives in Thornton, brother is up there and he says he’s never seen such frequent lightning in the uk (he’s not a storm chaser tho )
