I remember a 'loaded gun' scenario in July 2015 I think it was? I remember the cap breaking and clouds shooting upwards violently and rapidly. Was absolutely amazing to see. Cap broke around Shropshire I think and storms fired N from there

1st July 2015 remember this day well as we moved in to our house. Very hot day and then as soon as dark hit it all kicked off

It's sweltering in Essex at the moment, only the sea breeze here in Southend keeping us cool. I have been watching the sky all day but nothing popping up. Normally I can see stuff building over Kent and drifting towards us, let's see about tomorrow.

It looks abysmal for storms across Southern areas. Wednesday in to Thursday may be the best chance. But Midlands / North looks great.

Nice little display off Dover anyway.

What sort of conditions would the highlighted area around Leicestershire deliver if it came into fruition?

Looks pretty knife edge but those purples look quite alarming.

That Storm looks like it has intitiated from the outflow from that big MCS to its south over Paris.

Would not rule out some lightning off to the east from Dover and Folkestone tonight so keep em peeled, just had a look to my East and South East and nothing from the far east Estuary

If the weather won't come to the Triangle then I will go to the weather.

It will be the first year on record that I've been convinced enough I need to do a long chase, I will go to Leicester services for 3PM which is somewhere in the middle and move west northwest if needs be.

I have a feeling staying home all week will be bad (East Suffolk), by Weds/Thursday our luck will be destabilization in the North sea for the umpteenth time since I can remember.

It'd be a 2/3 am storm if it were to clip us in Kent. I'm just not sure if it'll last that long to be honest.

So, as we very very slowly creep closer to a possible complete breakdown of the hot weather...and it's looking like an unusually slow breakdown, will the emphasis of the storms slowly drift towards the east as the week progresses?

Suely if a cold front eventually comes in from the Atlantic...which is normally how these things break down, then the risk will get shunted east eventually? A slow breakdown has to be better news in the long run for those of you in the southeast who have been missing out this summer?

This is going to sound like I'm crazy, however, a slight mist has developed, not sure if those watch the cam can see it, but it's helping some of the sound come over somehow. Have heard a couple of very distant booms, with the brighter flashes.

Does lightning or thunder need to be over you or,  just visible/ audible from your location to destroy the cone of silence?

Either way good luck, we are all praying for you, we know you are scratching around for scraps, instead of your usual gourmet storms

@alexisj9 I haven't heard any elevated thunder as of yet, but we seem to have a thin veil of mist too

I’d love to know what’s changed that’s made the Southern half of England such a drought zone for storms, particularly imports up from France. Just doesn’t seem to happen much anymore. I remember some all night belters from my childhood which I didn’t appreciate much back then but certainly would do now. As you say Midlands northwards has become the storm sweet spot of the UK.

Let’s hope Wednesday/Thursday delivers the goods if not a few surprises before.
