LATE SUMMER/EARLY AUTUMN HORSE RACING COMPETITION

Recommended Posts

Having just finished my Midsummer Horse Racing Competition and a Memorial Competition, to the memory of my Italian Mother.

I will now start a new Competition, which I shall call - the LATE SUMMER/EARLY AUTUMN HORSE RACING COMPETITION.

Again the cornerstone of the Competition, will be ITV's Live Broadcasts, with their vey knowledgeable Racing Team, anchored by Ed Chamberlin - image.png.2f8f59a393151b62fe8111354b2d3ceb.png and Francesca Cumani - image.png.05b9b9aa01880565b28942e0b3ae0c30.png

The Competition will begin this coming Weekend, with a Saturday/Sunday "Double Header".

On Saturday, there will be 4 Live Races from Ascot, 2 from Haydock, and 1 from Newmarket.

ITV havn't yet finalised their Programme for Sunday, yet.

The Competition will run from Saturday 8th August, until Sunday 27th September.

If any Member would like to enter, please indicate your intention to do so, on this Thread.

I will Post more details about the Format for the Competition, later on Today.

Thank you.

Regards,

Tom.  :hi: 🏇

I like Ebor week, but the temptation to bet, and chase, can be an issue, so i've limited my spend per each day of the meeting. I need a change of luck, as my only pick ups in last couple of weeks

Thank you Jackie, that's great news. My worry was that they would lose the contract.

IMO, their Broadcasts are the best Racing Programmes I've seen, and I go way back.

I first started watching televised Racing in the mid-1960's, at the age of 8 or 9.

I can remember sitting under our Dining Room Table (don't know why? :cc_confused:), and watching Races like the Grand National, and being mesmerised by these magnificent beasts.

I grew up listening to the unmistakable tones of Sir Peter O'Sullevan (the doyen of all Horse Race Commentators).

ITV had John Rickman, with his trademark doffing of his Trilby, and the introduction of the original ITV7.

Channel 4 followed with their Racing Programmes, and the unmistakable John McCririck (Big Mac).

But IMO, ITV have topped the lot. I never thought BBC's Broadcasts would be bettered. "Back in the Day" their Racing Broadcasts were anchored by the very knowledgeable - image.png.230fe7fa07a600c3a550bec319e5f739.png - Julian Wilson.

But I really felt that the BBC started to lose their way with their coverage of Meetings, such as Royal Ascot.

They started to spend far too much time, on fashion items.

Having worked on the Course at Royal Ascot, I realise that fashion is an integral part of the Meeting.

But IMO, the BBC started to become obsessed with fashion. You could really sense Julian Wilson's frustration coming through the microphone, as he had his insightful analysis cut short by yet another fashion item.

IMHO, this is where ITV score highly. They have got the balance spot on between the Horse Racing and fashion.

The fashion items with Charlotte Hawkins and Mark Heyes, are of an appropriate length and in no way detract from the Racing, itself.

The Horses must always come first, and I think that ITV with their very informed Team, anchored by Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani, have struck the perfect balance. Chamberlin began his Horse Racing Career in Bookmaking, and brings that wealth of Betting knowledge, to the Programme.

Francesca Cumani, grew up surrounded by Racehorses at her Fathers', Bedford House Racing Stables, in Newmarket.

The very successful Italian Trainer - image.png.8d265f5843907121ce7aecf777eb0688.png - Luca Cumani, gave his young Daughter, (ironically the same age as my Daughter Hayley), the perfect introduction to Racehorses, and it shows.

Francesca's Paddock Commentaries are very informative, and obviously realises that a Paddock, isn't a type of Fish!!

It came as no surprise to me, that ITV's Broadcast of the 2017 Grand National, won a BAFTA award. Very well deserved, IMO.

We can look forward to more entertaining Horse Racing coverage, throughout the duration of this Competition.

I'm really looking forward to ITV's coverage of the Ebor Festival, at York (Weds. 19th Aug - Sat. 22nd Aug).

The Meeting will feature many important Races, such as the Juddmonte International, the Nunthorpe Stakes, the Yorkshire Oaks and the Ebor Handicap itself. The "Ebor" is currently the most valuable Flat Handicap staged, throughout the whole of Europe. The name comes from Eboracum, the Roman name for York.

We are likely to see many "old favourites" running, at the Ebor Festival.

Tomorrow, I will Post up the Format, for the LATE SUMMER/EARLY AUTUMN HORSE RACING COMPETITION.

Regards,

Tom.  :hi: 🏇

Much thanks for your Selections above Jackie (DRECKLY), ^^^^^. I'll get those entered up.

I will now (hopefully) explain the Round Robin Wager.

Fortunately, I've found a Free Bet Calculator Website. See below:

https://www.free-bet-calculator.co.uk/quick-bet-calculators/round-robin

E.G. Taking your 3 Selections as 1,2 and 3. E.G. 1 wins at 4/1. 2 finishes 3rd at 4/1. 3 wins at 4/1.

Enter your Unit Stake of 0.50p in the Box provided.

On the Each Way Box, click NO, as it's a WIN Round Robin.

Enter Selection 1 as WON, in the Status Box, and 4/1 in the WIN Odds Box provided.

Enter Selection 2 as LOST, in the Status Box.

Enter Selection 3 as WON, in the Status Box, and 4/1 in the WIN Odds Box provided.

You will see that the Total Returns are £25.50, with the Profit on the Bet - £20.50. Returns minus Stake.

If you had walked into a Betting Shop and placed that Bet, you would've been Paid Out - £25.50. Profit + Stake.

If you had placed that Bet with a Credit Bookmaker, such as Sunderland - £20.50.  Returns minus Stake.

I will now proof those Returns out.

The Single Stakes About Calculation on Pair 1 and 2, is as follows:

0.50p Selection 1 @ 4/1. WON = £2.50 (inc. Stake).

Take 50p off that to place on Selection 2, which LOST = £0.00 Returns.

0.50p Selection 2 @ 4/1.LOST.

That ends the Single Stakes About Calculation, for Pair 1 and 2.

Total Returns for Pair 1 and 2 = £2.00.

The Single Stakes About Calculation for Pair 1 and 3, is as follows:

0.50p Selection 1 @ 4/1 = £2.50 (inc. Stake).

Take 50p off that to place on Selection 3, which WON = £2.50 Returns.

0.50p Selection 3 @ 4/1.WON = £2.50 (inc.Stake).

Take 0.50p off that to place on Selection 1, which WON = £2.50 Returns.

Total Returns for Pair 1 and 3 = £9.00

That ends the Single Stakes About Calculation, for Pair 1 and 3.

The Single Stakes About Calculation for Pair 2 and 3, is as follows:

0.50p Selection 2 @ 4/1.LOST = £0.00. There are no funds to place on Selection 3.

0.50p Selection 3 @ 4/1.WON = £2.50 (inc.Stake).

Take 50p off that to place on Selection 2, which LOST = £0.00 Returns.

Total Returns for Pair 2 and 3 = £2.00

That completes the up and down, Single Stakes About about "Settling" of the Singles, in Pairs.

The Returns for the Singles (in Pairs) Phase, are as follows - £2.00£9.00 + £2.00 = £13.00.

The Calculation of the WIN Double, is much more straightforward.

Add a point to both prices 4/1 + (1) x 4/1 + (1) = 25 x your Stake of 0.50p = £12.50.

In this example, that would leave your 0.25p Place Treble, all 3 Selections at 1/4 Odds =

1/1 + (1), your Stake) x 1/1 + (1) x 1/1 + (1) = 8 x your Stake of 0.25p = £2.00

Therefore, if you had the above Round Robin Bet in your local Betting Shop, you'd be paid out the following:

£13.00 + £12.50 + £2.00 = £27.50.

If you had the above Round Robin with a Credit Bookmaker, you'd be paid out £27.50 minus your £5 Stake = £22.50

Now that was probably, as "clear as mud"!! Fortunately, we didn't take many Round Robins, at Sunderland!! 😰

I'm really pleased that I found that Free Bet Calculator this Morning, that will save my fatigued Brain, in future.

Regards,

Tom.   :hi: 🏇

Quote, Callum:

"also hope u are coping ok with the ridiculous heat down your way."

Just about K/W!! Certainly is ridiculous.

Colette invested in yet another Fan for the Bedroom, the other Day.

We've now got 2 of these fellas -    image.thumb.png.3bc1c7f59b85f2891b0d11a349e4254c.png

And one of these - image.thumb.png.b133199999487f6c2914e155f83f08ce.png

Just come downstairs, after my Afternoon snooze, and now sitting under 2 of these, in the Lounge:

image.thumb.png.866ea62dd344a838c0857abf5f3806b0.png

Our House is so small, and any heat quickly accumulates, plus our Bedroom sits directly above our Kitchen. If we have our Cooker on, the heat rises and just adds to the accumulated heat. Really not looking forward to Tonight.

More cold, wet flannels on heads, for myself and Colette later. It's an absolute Nightmare!!

Roll on Autumn, as far as I'm concerned!!

Thanks for Posting up that Bet Calculator. I'm ok with Singles.

Fortunately, I can still calculate most of those in my Head.

I did Post up that method of calculating a Winning Single, on a Calculator, the other Day.

As you are aware the Place Structure I use, is always a quarter of the Odds.

For a 4/1 Winner @ £1 E.W., the calculation is 4 x 1.25 (.25 for a quarter of the Odds) + your £2 Stake = £7.

If the Place Structure was a fifth of the Odds.

The calculation is 4 x 1.20 (.20 for a fifth of the Odds) + your £2 Stake = £6.80.

Obviously, it's those "fiddly" place additional Category Trixies, etc, that become quite awkward.

Tom.  :hi:🏇
