Ton up!!

37.8c is exactly 100F.

To think that before 2003, that was a temperature not recorded before in the UK.

Now the third hottest day recorded, with onmly 10 August 2003 and "Furnace Thursday" last year ahead of it.

It made 35.7 C before starting to ease down-yuk, too hot for me, about 28C is okay for me.

Surprised at how high temps have been today, not sure what the uppers were, has there been exceptional heat over France? Especially given the heat has arrived on the back of a relatively average spell of weather temp wise.

We maxed out 28 degrees, not as high as the 29 degrees we had on 25 June. An oddity, given every day apart from today and yesterday saw maxes below 20 degrees.

I think we have to completely change our expectations nowadays. By the standards of a few years ago, today should never have been able to get anything like as hot as it did. France has only really been hot over the past couple of days.

Yes almost 'day darkness' for a time but only 1.4 mm, about 6 flashes and several rumbles but none seemed that close

Dry, breezy and sunny for much of the day, becoming exceptionally hot by early afternoon. The temperature dropped off from early afternoon as it clouded over. The second hottest day here in my 18 year record. Maximum 35.8, minimum 15.7. Wind moderate SE.

How hot was Paris yesterday? Above 40 degrees? To hit high 30s normally I would expect on the back of low 40s in N France.

Maximums in Paris this week (depending on the station):
Mon: 30-32C
Tue: 23-25C
Wed: 26-27C
Thu: 31-33C
Fri: 37-39C

Stations further north in France were a couple of degrees cooler.

As you say, very surprising we got to the high 30s when northern France hadn't been over 33C during the week.

Jury out then why we had such high temps when north France only recorded low 30s yesterday..
