Heathrow up to 33c at 11.00am. All time record is 38.7c. Who thinks with heating still to go right up to 4pm that this record might fall despite not predicted to do so?

The temperature is increasing rapidly, however it may hit a ceiling. Have seen that before, where it rises rapidly in the morning but then quickly plateaus.

Peaked at 25.9 here an hour or so ago, but the steady ESE wind keeping a lid on temps here.

Meanwhile Heathrow and Northolt both reporting 35c/95f. Think the record is just out of reach, can't think we'll add more than 2 degrees or so. Just imagine if we had this air in place for 3-4 days instead of being brushed aside after a day as so often happens.

Have to feel sorry for Jersey. temps there rapidly rose to 25c or so by 8am. Now sat in fog and 18c!

35.1 at Reading University, the nearest official station to us, and heading towards 36 in our garden. Forecasts seem to be undercooking temperatures to the west of London.

35.6 at Reading University at 2.00, still rising. I'd say there's a fair chance of the official local record of 36.4 (and unofficially 36.6 in our garden) being broken today. Although there is some altocumulus starting to appear on the horizon now, which might turn out to be a spoiler.

It's been up to around 33C this afternoon but now there's a belt of light rain crossing us here in Taunton.

But for once the radar isn't telling the truth - the rain simply isn't reaching ground level - it's still as dry as a bone!

Yep, that would be evaporation.
