Sunshine Levels July 2020

Oh dear what a gloom fest this July is turning out to be, on the back of a locally duller than average June here. Barely scrapped double figure sunshine hours so far this month, shocking stuff!

Outlook more dull cloudy weather.

Do we have current sunshine stats?

Bring back the sunshine of April and May.

Feeling very disgruntled. Sunshine is mother nature medicine, and we really need it during this miserable 2020.

Just 31hrs here in the first 13 days of July. The last two days of June also had just 2hrs so its 33hrs in the last 15 days. That would be pretty average in December, but not just after the solstice!

Truly abysmal stuff.

54 hours down here, which is still pants, but sounds Mediterranean compared to the northwest!

Not the best, although today and yesterday were relatively sunny. Looks mostly cloudy until Friday at least, even then a full day of sunshine isn't guaranteed.

Can't remember the last time we had blue skies all day.

Yes with a likely Covid resurgence on the horizon I was hoping to get as much natural vitamin D as I could this summer. Thank Goodness I purchased a supply to take daily. Never had to do that before in the summer months.

46 hours here in Cambridge - an average of just over 3 hours a day in mid summer.

Never thought I’d see the day that we’d only be averaging 3 hours a day In July when there’s a good 15 hours of daylight available. Thoroughly depressing.

At almost the mid-point of the month and we're on 35.8hrs (35%) for the first 15 days.

The second half now needs 102 hours to beat the dullest on record which was 2000 with 138hrs.

Wow... well on course to beat 2000. I guess several days of fine weather could easily skew that figure upwards, though.

48.2 hrs of sun in the 20-day period at Dublin Airport from June 27 to July 16 2020. For comparison, the first 20 days of December 2019 (1st-20th) had 49.1 hrs.. and that was with shorter daylight...

79 hours in London so far. The record of 129.9 hours in 1965 looks safe now.

Might even get to 180 hours, cloudy but not catastrophically so.

Just 42.2hrs of sunshine so far this month here and only 44.3hrs in the last 20 days. Pretty shocking for less than a month after the solstice.

Just a few hours of sunshine this week so far, not sure what the levels are currently looking like, but most likely exceptionally below July average. This is making for a very drab July, one of the cloudiest on record I imagine, and not much sign of the next week delivering much either.

Surely the cloudiest July on record?

Still only 68.2hrs of sunshine for us with only 6 days of the month remaining. Its looking like having more sunshine than the previous dullest of 138hrs in July 2000 isn't going to happen now so this month will be a new record holder.

There's a chance of it being the dullest summer month ever in 40 years of records for us. To take that title it needs less than the 111hrs currently held by June 1987. Other targets are 102hrs, which would make it duller than every month April-August and 92hrs, which would make it the dullest month in the Apr-Sep period - the sunniest 6 months of the year on average.

All look pretty likely at the moment!

We need another 30 hours just to reach 50% by months end at the moment!

This is turning into a shocker of a July on the sunshine front, expecting end results to be woefully below average. Can't remember a July so cloudy. It's been depressing. Today a case in point, a chink of blue sky, nil hours of sunshine. What has happened to the sunshine?

About 72 hrs of sunshine from 27th June to 26th July. This could be actually worse than August 2008 in terms of % because there are potentially more hours of sunshine to record from 27th June to 26th July than there is during August.

One facet of this July (noticeable in Exeter over the last few days) has been the large number of supposed "sunshine and showers" type days which have seen remarkably little sun.  It hasn't been quite so bad here as the middle third of the month was quite sunny in south Devon, but further north it's really been a cloudfest.
