Good news for us Coldies: "The La Nina phase will continue all the way through winter 2020/2021"

https://www.severe-weather.eu/long-range-2/fall-forecast-2020-enso-lanina-winter-influence-fa/

I take this to mean a stronger possibility of a milder and wetter than average Autumn and the possibility of the winter, as it progresses, producing high pressure anomaly over Scandinavia as a possibility, but a La Nina event and any confidence in how it affects Europe is not certain, in Winter proper.

If La Nina gets too strong, then it would not be good news for those of us wanting a cold winter.

PDO saw the most negative August since 2013.

QBO saw a standardised value of +0.94, the last cycle saw 6 months above +1.

There is a good chance that September will be sunnier than August this year. I looked up how often this is the case, and the result is quite surprising.

Heathrow (1957-present)

1958
1968
1971
1979
2006
2008
2010
2011
2015
2018

It occurred maybe once per decade on average until 2000. Since then, 3x per decade, and 5 times in the last 12 years!

Just shows how poor Augusts have become over the years. 160 hours to beat here.

Some pleasant September sunshine this morning, just about warm enough for shorts & t shirt here.

Talk of mild winter in the MOD thread. what's new? ❄️ can't be worse than the 2019-20 winter.

Agreed. Just been to the work and lots of people taking advantage of the warm sunny weather.

I don’t mind if they say it’s going to be mild. Generally there’s cold spells that’ll be a nice surprise. It’s when expectations start off really high of a cold winter that never materialises, then lots of people start throwing things lol

Given the... er... circumstances this year, my hope for autumn is very firmly for it to be warm/mild and dry. I intend to be outdoors as much as possible, and when the weather plays ball it can be very pleasant well into October. A wet autumn would not be very welcome from my POV. So we'll doubtless get record flooding...

A beautifully clear and cool morning here in the Cotswolds. This is the autumnal mist that settled over Rolling Brook - a tributary of the River Evenlode between Chippy and Kingham.

Enjoy

Overcast and drizzly here today and yesterday. Autumnal feeling but also quite humid at the same time.

Awful humid feel today, fingers crossed it won't last long, not nice at all.

Finally a nice comfortable day for being outdoors, all the previous days of this month were naggingly chilly and depressingly overcast. Feels lovely out there today - felt so energized!

What isn't nice is spending an entire month of summer indoors because it is either too cold or wet. How can any fan of outdoor-activity-wrecking weather complain after the absolute "beauty" you have had this summer save for 4 days in June, 1 day in July and 6 days in August? Finally sat outside in the garden today for the first time in an entire month.

Wonderful day today.  Sun is shining and there's a pleasant warmth to the air.  The sun is quite a bit weaker now making it feeling much more pleasant (I find hot days in June and July can be quite intense in the sun).

If you could some across the estuary that would be grand. It's been cloudy with the odd glimpse all day!
