A decent enough October so far; fairly changeable which is what I like as it keeps things interesting. I enjoy the gradual decrease in temperature as we approach winter and am really looking forward to the first proper cold spell of the season. Fairly mild at the moment, but as autumn progresses those mild temperatures will slip away into single figures.

Managed a dry day yesterday for the first time this month. Back to normal today. ?️

The most inclement day I've experienced for a good while. Pouring rain all day, temperatures hovering around 6C and gale-force gusts.

October has already accrued over 100mm of rain. 70mm has come in the last four days. And it's still going.

Sounds like a slightly colder version of what we had in the UK on the 2nd-4th October. Not nice!

Conversely, all early showers missed this area, passing southwards to the west so it's been quite a bright if rather cool day.

There was lying snow down to pretty low elevations this morning in parts of Slovakia. This is Lokca in the north, below 700m:

We seem to have changed quickly from summer to autumn this year.

Hoping we get some early snowfall! Based on current patterns, we might just get it.. ❄️

Whilst it's been chilly so far this month, still waiting that first proper pang of Autumn that comes courtesy of the first air frost lingering well into the morning. Usually happens third week of October I.e. next week. Models suggesting we may see some cold nights next week if pattern becomes slack.

It was quite a pronounced change - the first half of September was pretty warm and dry, and it flipped very quickly at the end of the month to a cooler regime, and that hasn't really shifted,

It changed during the penultimate week in September here. The first part of the week still had summer like conditions with temperatures in the low 20’s then the change came later in the week with temperatures around the mid-teens.

Entering the time of the year when I believe we see our most marked sudden change in the overall feel of things, thanks to marked loss of light, and usually a bout of wind and rain. Next weekend is the moment in time, when the clock go back. We have a week or so left of enough light in the late afternoon/early evening, before crash the darkness sets in. That first Sunday evening is always a shock when it goes dark by 5pm! Make the most of this weekend everyone!

Aye and when generally the wetter and windier it is, the warmer it is, colder and sunny/clear, darker mild, lighter cold/clear

With another lockdown looming, the early part of this coming winter is looking very bleak.

It seems so strange how quickly we’ve descended into darkness. Pitch black until nearly 7am now, and dark before 7pm.  The early hints of autumn during late August and early September have now fully transformed into full blown autumn.

Aside from the washout in the first few days, this is shaping up to be a very boring month. Nothing particularly Autumnal, looking probable to be frost-free for most - dull.

Nothing really going on at the moment - been fairly boring over the last couple of days.

Yes, aside from the 1st weekend it is quite a boring month so far.  It has been cold, but nothing exceptional.

Looking  lot more unsettled and windy this week though.  Gonna try and get some autumnal leaf colour photos early next week before they all blow away!

Yes not the most interesting of months. Cool maximums generally but the nights haven't been all that cold.

Good afternoon,

Yes absolutely of course not helped by some very gloomy weather!

I feel that the sudden change is probably due to the fact that although the sun is up less than 12 hours after 23rd September, it's not really until a month later where actual night is longer than 12 hours once you take dawn and dusk into account. For me summer is truly over when night starts eating into your day both start and end.

I'm really am hoping for some bright weather in November onwards as crisp weather always make the short days much more palatable.

Thankfully this unwelcome mild crap is on the way out, really makes you appreciate those crisp mornings even more!. Rest of the month is looking much better temp wise.

I was expecting some heavy downpours today, but instead the rain was relatively light. At least in my neck of the woods anyway.
