Having just finished my Early Summer Horse Racing Competition, I will now immediately start a new Competition Thread.

This Competition will be entitled - the MIDSUMMER HORSE RACING COMPETITION

The Competition will run until 1st August and will end with the "Glorious" Goodwood Festival (Tues.28th July - Sat.1st Aug).

The Competition will begin with a "bang" on Saturday 4th July, with the rescheduled Epsom Derby and Oaks, the 3rd and 4th English Classics, of the Season.

The ITV Main Channel will be screening the first 6 Races, Live from the Surrey Racecourse.

These 6 Races will be the focus of the first Day of the Competition but I will also include, the not to be televised 5.35 Epsom.

The following Day sees a further 7 Live Races from Haydock and Sandown.

The feature Race will be the 3.35 at Sandown - the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes.

This Race will feature the Seasonal reappearance of Superstar Mare, the John Gosden trained - image.thumb.png.77d2733e0a2e9b9aa0ce3b1d4bf98eba.png - ENABLE, a Granddaughter via Nathaniel of, yes you've guessed it, Galileo!!

Galileo is also represented by his classy Son, the Aidan O'Brien trained - image.thumb.png.649484a8c540a774ffd491f9dc458123.png - JAPAN..

The field also includes the impressive GHAIYYATH and recent Royal Ascot Winner, LORD NORTH.

Tomorrow, I will Post up details of the first additional Category (1) - the MIDSUMMER GROUP 1 TRIXIE.

This will feature The OAKS, The DERBY, both to be run at Epsom (Sat.4th), and The ECLIPSE Stakes at Sandown (Sun.5th).

I'm hoping that the usual Racing "Crowd" will enter.

If any other Member would like to Enter, please indicate your intention by Posting on this Thread.

Thank you.

Regards,

Tom.  :hi: ?

Evening all,

I just want to return to the Derby, for another couple of Youtube Clips.

Up first is the joint 3rd Favourite for Saturday's Race, MOGUL

Another O'Brien Galileo Colt, he was made Favourite for his reappearance at Royal Ascot but could only finish 4th.

He is obviously expected to improve a lot for that Race, as he is still Joint 3rd Favourite, for the DERBY:

Finally in the DERBY, the other Joint 3rd Favourite and yet another O'Brien Galileo Colt, RUSSIAN EMPEROR.

Here is a Clip of him Winning the Hampton Court Stakes, at Royal Ascot:

In a short while, I will Post up some Youtube Clips of the main contenders for LEG 3 of the, GROUP 1 TRIXIE.

That being the ECLIPSE Stakes.

Tom.  :hi: ?

And now the main contenders in Sunday's Eclipse Stakes.

First up, John Gosden's Superstar Mare, ENABLE

She is due to make her much anticipated reappearance, in the Eclipse.

She is a hot Favourite for Sunday's Race.

Here she is in defeat to Waldgeist, in last October's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe:

And now a Youtube Clip of 2nd Favourite for the ECLIPSE, the Charlie Appleby trained GHAIYYATH.

Here he is Winning the Coronation Cup at Newmarket, on June 5th:

And now the 3rd Favourite, another John Gosden Runner, LORD NORTH.

Here is a Clip of him Winning the Prince of Wales Stakes, at Royal Ascot in June:

Finally the 4th Favourite, another Galileo Son JAPAN.

Here is a Clip of Aidan O'Brien's Globetrotter, winning the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp, last July:

Morning all,

I hope yourself and your Families, are all well and Virus free.

Not forgetting of course, Pinch, Punch, first Day of the Month, blah, blah, blah, etc.

Before I do anything else, just want to Post up some images of the "tools of my trade".

Using CASSIE/SE12 (my Wife, Colette) as an example, below are some images of her personal Folder:

Her personalised "Betting Slip", with this Weekend's Competition Races, written up. -  image.thumb.png.daded430d524018ecab03c8ba13d0703.png

Her personalised "Betting Slip" for Additional Categories.

Her Selections for Category 1 - the  GROUP 1 TRIXIE, already written up -  image.thumb.png.3740531095c8059039a10d85fb6ab727.png

With 10 Entrants in the Competition, I need to be organised.

Each Entrant, has the above, in A4 Plastic Wallets.

You will have 2 Betting Slips "on the go", at any one time.

1 "Betting Slip" for Singles, etc and 1 for Additional Categories.

As I've stated before, I greatly miss the "craic" and "buzz" of important Racing Days, since losing my job, after suffering that Brain Haemorrhage/Stroke back in September 2015.

These Competitions have been so important, during the recovery from my illness.

Both myself and Colette were very worried about the chances of me developing Vascular Dementia, a fairly common occurrence after a Brain Haemorrhage at my age (64), 65 in September.

But "touch wood", no sign of it at the moment.

Retaining the ability to "settle" (calculate Bets), and learning how to use a Computer, has helped my damaged "grey matter", keep ticking over.

All those of you that have entered my Competitions, have all played your part in my rehabilitation, from illness.

Your support and patronage of my Competitions, is much appreciated.

In a short while, I will Post up more details about a tremendous Weekend of Racing, up and coming.

Regards,

Tom.  :hi: ?

To whet the appetite, just want to take a look at the main Races, up and coming this Weekend, in respect of last Year, via some Youtube Clips.

First up is PINATUBO, who became Champion 2 Year Old. Here he is winning the Woodcote Stakes, first Race on the card of Epsom's, Derby Meeting. The "Woodcote" is normally one of the top early Season 2 Year Old Races but of course we're a Month further down the line now, and Royal Ascot has already come and gone.

Here then is PINATUBO, winning at Epsom in 2019:

Now, old friend ANTHONY VAN DYCK (Father Galileo, of course!!), winning last Year's Derby:

Now  ANAPURNA (Father Frankel, Grandfather Galileo), winning the Oaks under Frankie Dettori:

Finally Superstar Mare ENABLE (Father Nathaniel, Grandfather Galileo), winning the 2019 Eclipse Stakes:

An amazing Weekend of Group 1 Races coming up, due to Covid-19.The Derby/Oaks and Eclipse Stakes would normally be run, a Month apart.

Tom.  :hi:?

Much thanks to Jackie (DRECKLY) and Gav (SUMMER SUN) for your Selections above ^^^^^. They are already entered up onto your "Betting Slips" and tucked away into your A4 Plastic Wallets.

It's amazing the influence that Champion Sire GALILEO has in Group 1 Races, around the World.

But Galileo's - image.png.cb1b4ce6cdb6de6e279cd643787e45af.png influential bloodline stretches back via his Father.

Sadler's Wells - image.png.3ae1161b1c2dd0729eaa3adfa9e2aa30.png who was also a Champion Sire.

As was his Sire, Canadian, Northern Dancer - image.png.f9db24a56a90bd34a54da050290871b5.png

Galileo's Son, Frankel -  image.png.6801f4ae63716f1236fdfff20a2a4171.png is starting to emulate his Sire's success, at Stud.

This Bloodline is linked to over half the Field, in the Derby.

Galileo is directly responsible for the current 3rd,4th and 5th Favourite, in the Derby.

His influence is just as strong in the Oaks.

He is directly responsible for Favourite Love, Ennistymon and Passion.

The Northern Dancer Bloodline is also linked to many others in the Oaks too,.

This includes 2nd Favourite, Frankly Darling (Sire Frankel).

Think I spent too much time reading the Breeding Columns in the Bookmaker's Trade Newspapers.

That being the Sporting Life, and the Racing Post.

I had to occupy myself somehow, in between taking Bets on the Phone.

Galileo could well be heavily involved again at the Weekend.

But that's probably stating, the breeding obvious!!

With that I'll get my Dressing Gown and head for my Bed.

I'll Post up some more details of the Format for the Weekend, Tomorrow Morning.

Night all.

Regards,

Tom. :hi: ?

Morning all,

I hope yourself and your Families, are all well and Virus free.

Just one more mention of GALILEO and Breeding.

For those of you that are interested, below is a link to all the Stallions that stand at the Coolmore Stud Farm.

https://coolmore.com/stallions/

This is located, over in County Tipperary.

What a fantastic looking bunch of "beasts".

Galileo being the "Flag Bearer" of course, and standing alongside his Sons, Australia, Capri, Churchill, Gleneagles, Highland Reel, amongst others.

Probably asking way too much but with LOVE, VATICAN CITY and JAPAN, I've gone for Galileo being directly responsible for all 3 Winners, of the Group 1 Trixie.

Whatever the Results, I fully expect his Bloodline, stretching back to Canadian Stallion Northern Dancer, to be extremely influential in the outcome, of those Races.

Whatever happens, it should be a fantastic Weekend of Top Class Racing.

I hope you will all be able to watch it.

I, for one, can't wait.

I should get back on track now!!

Later this Morning, I will Post up the Racing Post links to Saturday's Competition Races, which will comprise of all 7 Races, at Epsom. Plus details of a second Additional Category.

Regards,

Tom.  :hi: ?

Just a quick note on Saturday's Derby.

I don't want to put anybody off backing KAMEKO.

But listening to Jockey Oisin Murphy, after he'd won the 2,000 Guineas on the Horse, I got the impression that "connections" think that 10 Furlongs, rather than 12 Furlongs, would be his optimum trip.

I see that Kameko's Dam (Mother), was Sired by Rock Of Gibraltar. He was very much a Top performer, at around a Mile (8 Furlongs).

Don't know much about Kameko's Sire, American Stallion Kitten's Joy.

But my worry would be, when "push comes to shove", the Derby distance may be a Furlong or so, too far.

In this respect Kameko may turn out to have a similar profile to the Owners (Qatar Racing), very useful 10 Furlong performer Roaring Lion, also Sired by Kitten's Joy.

I'm probably well wide of the mark but not long to wait, to find out!!

Regards,

Tom.  :hi:?

Afternoon all,

Right, the Final Declarations are through for Saturday, Derby Day.

Unfortunately, the Fields in some of the Races have "cut up" (reduced in size), quite badly.

This is not surprising as Royal Ascot, was only a couple of Weeks ago.

Below, are the Racing Post links to the Final Declarations, for all 7 Races.

The first 6 Races will be shown Live on ITV, with The Oaks at 3.40 and The Derby at 4.55.

Even though the 5.35 won't be shown Live, I will include it in the Competition.

Below are the links, to those Races. I will Post up details of the Format, after these links:

Much thanks to Jackie (DRECKLY) and LASSIE23 above, ^^^^. That's brilliant I'll get those entered up.

And thanks for that info Jackie.

So, Galileo's Daughter goes for the French Oaks (Prix de Diane).

As it's a Group 1, I'll include that with Sunday's Competition Races.

Have also noticed that the French Derby (Prix du Jockey Club), is also being run.

So I'll include that too, as it's also a Group 1.

Let's take a look at the current Declarations, for those 2 Races:

PRIX DU JOCKEY CLUB (French Derby) - 2.10 Chantilly.

https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/204/chantilly/2020-07-05/762145

Favourite is VICTOR LUDORUM, owned by "The Boys in Blue" (Godolphin).

Father is the Arab Breeding Operation's leading Sire, Shamardal.

Galilleo is the Grandsire of both ORDER OF AUSTRALIA and FORT MYERS.

PRIX DE DIANE (French Oaks) - 2.55 Chantilly.

https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/204/chantilly/2020-07-05/762146

Jessica Harrington's impressive Royal Ascot Winner ALPINE STAR, is Favourite.

As Jackie stated above, Galileo is represented by PEACEFUL.

These 2 Races will make up, Additional Category 2 - The ??FRENCH GROUP 1 Double.

I will Post up details of Category 2, after my Dinner.

Thanks Jackie, I might have missed those 2 important Races. :oldgood:

I'll Post up details of Category 2, after my Dinner.

I will now Post up of details of Additional Category 2 - the ??FRENCH GROUP 1 Double.

Perhaps I should call it the DRECKLY Double, as Jackie discovered the Races, are being run on Sunday.

Below, are the Racing Post links to the Declarations for both Legs.

You will be allocated "Virtual" Stakes of £4, in 4 x 50p Each Way Doubles (2x2).

You will also be given the option of which Odds, you'd like.

You can have the French Pari-Mutuel Odds (P.M.), or British Bookmakers Industry Odds (S.P.)

Please indicate in the "Virtual" Stake Box, with a P.M. or S.P., which you'd like.

As a rule of thumb, it normally pays to back an English/Irish Trained Horse, at Pari-Mutuel Odds (P.M.).

Whereas, it normally pays to back a French Trained Horse, at British Bookmaker's Odds (S.P.).

But please "don't shoot the messenger", if I'm wrong.

During the last couple of Years when I was working for Sunderland Credit Bookmakers, the large Bookmakers such as William Hill, Ladbrokes and Coral, started to put money into the Pari-Mutuel Pool, to shorten the French Tote Odds, especially on English/Irish Trained Horses, if they faced huge liabilities on Horses that in their opinion were "over priced" on the Pari-Mutuel.

Select 2 Horses in each Leg.

Please Copy/Paste your Selections into the Boxes provided below.

Also, please indicate with a P.M. or S.P., in the "Virtual" Stake Box, on which Odds you would prefer.
